It seems like I keep recommending Wonder for about half of the categories anyone asks about. This book made my soul smile. Definitely a feel good story.

I’ve recently bought so many books, all of which I’m definitely going to read right away, but instead, today, I have picked up Terry Pratchett’s Witches Abroad to read in the sun, because it makes me smile, even though I’ve read it at least 10 times 🙂

I just read my first Pratchett because of a recommendation on here. Not sure what to think. Which book of his would you start with? I felt like I needed some background.

Which one did you read? The early ones are quite stand-alone, although reading A Colour of Magic will give you a good idea about Ankh Morpork (it’s the first one and introduces Rincewind the Wizard). The witch books are my favourite, of which Witches Abroad makes me smile the most, but I love the Death books too, the first one of these is Mort I think. Pyramids is a great stand alone book if you want just to try one without having to read the others first.

Oh and I just remembered The Last Continent, Interesting Times, Small Gods….just brilliant, cheery stuff, all of it 🙂

@Lisa also just discovered Terry Prachett and after doing a little research read Color of Magic and some of his short stories. I love his writing!! Trying to decide on which one to read next!

Wyrd Sisters, Mort, or Pyramids I would suggest, they’re all quite early and a good introduction to the various themes.

I read Making Money. Thanks for your suggestions. Very helpful!

Making Money was quite a late one, I think it’d be helpful to read the earlier ones for background, plus I think the first few are funnier, they started getting a bit moralistic later on 🙂

Thanks again. It was….mostly enjoyable but I do look forward to earlier ones with more explanation of the world. And funnier is always welcome!

This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper. It was made into a movie with Jane Fonda and Jason Bateman, but the book was much funnier.

The Miss Julia series, by Ann B. Ross. Fun with a touch of mystery. Marvelous characters. Good stories.

Laura Corogenes Molly Harper’s “Nice Girl’s” Vampire series. They are very funny. So are the books in Rhys Bowen’s “Royal Spyness” series. I love both. However, I recommend both in audio format. I’ve read them and listened to them and the narrators are perfect for both series, they add so much to the books.
