No it is about slavery during the time of the Civil war.

@Jackie, actually it takes place 38 years before the Civil War.

This is my favorite book of hers. It is based on the lives of the Grimke sisters, who were abolitionists. It also gives an unromanticised view of slavery, as well as an insight into the Vesey Rebellion, a historically important event that is neither taught or talked about. As someone who is developing a documentary on the Nat Turner Rebellion, I found this to be very informative. It is also a great read. It is Kidd’s best work to date.
