I got it on CD from the library and returned it on the 3d of 14. I just couldn’t get into it. But sometimes that’s just us, or the format — I may try it again, in print. Several times I’ve given a book another try and enjoyed it.
The rabbits of Ravensbrück were real women, though this book is fiction, it brings to life well the horrors they suffered and the strength they possessed. Their stories deserve to be told and remembered.
Thought the author could’ve have done a better job at character development. I didn’t feel she did the Caroline’s character justice and her story really started to bother me. I was sad when I got to her parts and found myself wanting to keep reading about the other two characters. It was a three star book for me.
@Carrie I felt the same and was left wondering how people that truly knew Caroline would feel about the added fictional stuff about her. I would like to visit her estate-museum someday.
Oh yes it is!! But, that being said…it may not be for you. Or it may not be for you at this time. Don’t stress. Let it go and pick it up later when you may be more receptive to it.
People have different tastes, and that’s okay! My two cents is that if a book hasn’t grabbed you by 50 pages, there’s another book out there that will.
Very glad I read this book, hard going at times but definitely worth it … I looked up the real people and events when I had finished, it was a piece of history I didn’t know about.
I’m of mixed minds regarding this issue. Life is too short and my TBR pile too tall to read anything that doesn’t speak to me. On the other hand, some truly great books require a little time to get into. So, it’s on a case by case basis. If the buzz is really good about a book, I’ll persevere. Otherwise, I’ll shelve the book.
Sometimes people recommend a book and I just cant get into it, so I set it aside and read something else then come back to it. I get into moods where all I want to read is Southern chic lit and then times when I want to read is mystery. It might be better second time around.
I found it ver worthwhile.
I really enjoyed it!
I actually didn’t like it. It was too slow for me, and I didn’t feel “sucked in” by the story.
It’s really good though it did take a bit to get into for me
It’s wonderful. Don’t give up.
It was Ok. Other WW2 stories were more riveting for sure. Slow moving but nice enough characters and story lines.

It was okay for me — not even close to my favorites for WW2. So, not a favorite, but a worthwhile read for me.

I’ve not read it, but I don’t keep reading it if doesn’t grab me! I know that is an unpopular opinion – not to finish a book

I loved The Lilac Girls.
It was one of my favorites from last year.
I stopped when it got to the concentration camp-very unsettling-I just couldn’t continue. And this is from someone who read Silence of the Lambs?
I listened to it and enjoyed it. It’s not a story for everyone though. It’s sad and a bit disturbing.
Keep reading. It is so good!
I loved it
