Wallace Stegner – Crossing to Safety won him the Pulitzer at the age of 62, following a long writing career. I had never heard of him until one of the members of book club selected this title.

A civil war has raged on for more than three hundred years. A war of magic and steel, bigotry and jealousy, it has darkened the world of Thurnangl for far too long. Plunged into chaos, no hope in sight, Thurnangl’s only salvation rests in a prophecy, longforgotten.
This prophecy, this dim flicker of light, dares to bring hope to the hopeless-a hope that rests squarely on the shoulders of two heroes, bound so closely that death itself struggles to stand against them.

Sour Heart by Jenny Zhang. Short story collection that reads like a novel really. Her debut as an author, just won the Pen Award. Very interesting read.
