Why would old school be a consideration?

They’re good.

The earlier ones are better. The later ones get repetitive.

and his stand alone book Faerie Tale is probably my favorite book of all time

Cheers! I should probably correct my OP a little as I’m a big fan of old school 80s books myself. It’s just that some people out there prefer modern fantasy that avoids the typical fantasy tropes. I’m actually fine with it actually.

Modern fantasy avoids the tropes? Have yet to find one that does that.

Personally, tropes are fine. People make too big a deal of it.

Feist is awesome. He’s what I started on. His later books aren’t as good but they’re still solid. He has a new trilogy coming out soon too, and it has nothing to do with the old series.

Thanks for the feedback Adam! BTW if you could, can you give me a brief outline of what the first magician book is like? Is it action packed? Does it have political drama? Suspense? Horror? Is the magic system unique? And I’m actually hoping there’s no teen love ansty stuff in it ?

I love Feist and majority of his books. I think his earlier novels are the best but Riftwar Saga was still a good read for me.

The only reason to not read it is that most other books will disappoint after you do.
