Rainy day here and need a new book. Scariest you’ve ever read? I’m looking for dark and disturbing!
Have you read Baby Teeth?
What’s it about?
I’m getting ready to read it right now, and I’m a bit scared to do so. It’s about a creepy child and has left many of my friends scared to sleep with the lights off ?.
This is a newer book. Ive heard good & bad things about it so Ive got it on Hold at the library.
@Jennifer let us know what you think when you finish it. Ive got it on Hold but it wont be available til mid next month.
I think I’m gonna take the plunge and download it!
@Leslie I didn’t love it. I wouldn’t consider it the scariest I’ve read either. Try The Fourth Monkey by JD Barker
@Jamie what’s it about?
@Leslie a serial killer. Told from his childhood diary and from the cops investigating
@Jamie this sounds intriguing…
@Jennifer it was amazing. A sequel just came out too
anything by ania ahlborn. she is queen of creep.
What’s the best one?
I really liked the Shuddering. Bird Eater, Brother were also great!! You really cannot go wrong with any.
I looked on Goodreads. Seed & Brother both got the highest ratings but they were all pretty close. Both The Bird Eater & Seed were listed as prime books so I got Seed as my July prime book because I hadn’t used it yet. I’ve been reading sci-fi & my sons YA books this month so its time for a change.
@Nancy I had actually gotten the Bird Eater a long time ago on Kindle but hadnt read it yet.
It is creeeeee-py!!
I started Seed & only 20% through it. Im totally creeped out. We’ve got a storm moving through now & my husband leaves to go out of town tomorrow night, so l’m regretting my book choice. Lol!
@Heather haha the baby teeth is getting good too!!
@Heather I actually am audio listening to seed today while I work. It’s pretty good! Especially since I’m from new Orleans but the narrator cannot do a cajun accent !
@Leslie I just finished baby teeth. It was good.
@Nancy I’m on chapter 8 of seed right now and then I’m going back to baby teeth
@Leslie I have trouble with audio because I normally can’t focus on anything except the horrible voice! I had 5min left in the book & had company drive up!!! ? Im about to finish it right now.
Off topic from it but I finished last week reading words on bathroom walls and it was excellant. Not scary but very insightful oh schizophrenia
@Leslie I will check into it.?
Seed was exactly what I was looking for!!!! Creepy!!!!!
@Leslie glad you enjoyed it…I am telling you…she is the queen of creepy!! I have enjoyed all her books so far.
@Nancy oh I did!!! I’m gonna finish baby teeth and then try another of hers
read the shuddering….soooo good.
@Nancy ok!!!!!!

Same here @Leslie. I was so upset because I wanted to love it. I just couldn’t hang. Maybe I’ll try again some day.
@Lori I know exactly how you feel! Especially all I’ve heard is how scary and twisted it is so that’s my favorite and a few pages in…. nope cant , it’s not pulling me in
Security by Gina Wohlsdorf
The Legend of Hell House by Richard Mattheson
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
Bedbugs by Ben H. Winters
The Terror by Dan Simmons
The haunting of hill house, is that like the movie?
Ryan, how did I not know you were here?! *tackle-hug*
Surprise!
@Leslie, the 1963 version of The Haunting is a great movie, a favorite of mine. But it doesn’t hold a candle to the book.
Heartsick by Chelsea Cain first in a series
+1 for Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage
Don’t know if it’s the scariest, but it is really good. GHOST STORY be Peter Straub.
There’s a old school computer game with the name straub as the character the 13th hour!
This is one of my favorites!
The only book I could not finish and it was so scary I gave it away. Did not even want it in my house.
@Sharlene now I gotta read it!
The Shining by Stephen King. I didnt sleep for days.
That one was good! Better than the movie!
@Leslie, yes I agree!!
I agree, had trouble reading that one at night when no one was home!
@Natalie I had nightmares about the woman in the bathtub!
@Heather yes, that was scary! The hedge animals scared me the most.
Just watched a series on Netflix called The Killing and based on a Danish author and book. I am on the hunt, fantastic edge of your seat but in the meantime may I suggest, “Crime in the Neighborhood” and “Church of the Dead Girls”, they still haunt me.
Jamaica Inn, you won’t what the check you are reading
Very goth.
Not as good as Rebecca, but still damn good.
Know
Michelle Paver has 2 great books. Thin Air and Dark Matter. Very atmospheric. Loved them.
The Fourth Monkey by JD Barker and then the sequel – The Fifth to Die. Or Unsub by Meg Gardiner
How about BABY TEETH!!
The taking by Dean Koontz, especially on a rainy day!
The Bad Place by Dean Koontz scared the heck out of me

I’ll put in another vote for Baby Teeth.

It. By Stephen King
That was a good one!
We Need To Talk About Kevin.
Have heard alot of good reviews
It was VERY disturbing!!
I dont even know what its about
@Leslie about a son named Kevin. Go look up the description. You can’t go wrong with this book.
@Laura looks good!!!
I tried this one and couldn’t get into it… maybe I’ll try again!
@Nancy oh please do!!!!!
@Nancy same here. I will try it again one day.
Stay by @Chelsea
You might enjoy this one… “When Harden Campbell wakes cold and beaten in a dirt-floor cell, he finds only three other things in the room with him: the mutilated body of his good friend, an ancient typewriter, and a stack of blank paper, the top sheet of which has a single, typed sentence. Tell me a story.”
Hardback options available from $1.32. All of Carter’s stuff is pretty gripping. I’d post a link to an interview I did with him, but some in here see that as self-promotion, which is a no-no.

Skull Sessions and The Tale of Halcyon Crane
Bird Box by Josh Malerman
That really was spooky!
Loving the participation on this post!! You guys rock!!!
I found Gone Girl to be disturbing
That was a good one!!!
Still Missing by Chevy Stevens, Suspect by Michael Robotham
http://books2read.com/thedevilslieutenant
Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider
Loved these and the movies
I just finished Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects. If you want a great thriller author, try Chevy Stevens. Still Missing is her creepiest.
Yes, I agree about Still Missing!
If you follow her page, you’ll see that she’s a gentle soul with a talent for comedy as well. She came to my local bookstore last year and we all asked her where her dark side came from and she just laughed and said she had no idea.
It by Stephen king
I think its called Bag of Bones. By Stephen King
The lovely bones!
That book and movie tore me up!!
The Broken Girls by Simone St. James- This book is a spooky mystery with a ghost in the mix. It is not the most terrifying but it is really good. It was a February pick for Book of the Month Club.
Nice to hear (well, read). I got that book in my BOTM also! Can’t wait to read it!
Swan Song by Robert McCammon, The Stand by Stephen King and Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
I found whispers & Roars by K Webster & Dark Places by Gillian Flynn both dark and disturbing in a great great way!!
Red Dragon, silence of the lambs.
Loved both!
Books of blood, Clive barker
The Uninvited by Mike Evans
Relentless, Dean Koontz
Because of you, Maureen, I read this a couple of months ago. I did something I’ve never done before-checked the ending when I was about 1/4 of the way thru as I fell in love with the main characters!
@Kris, great read
Pet Semetary, Stephen King. Freaked me out big time.
Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. Good God.
My very first horror book!!!
