Loved it so much! I just need to get ahold of the second one now!
A friend of mine liked it so much that she got a quote from it as a tattoo.

It was meh for me. I loved the concept and world building but the characters were just meh. I also DNF the series after the second book and have no desire to continue. However, I did love Strange the Dreamer by the author.

This is exactly how I felt <3 I loved the first, but midway through two I was sort of like 'I'd love this if some other people were the main characters maybe...' and I didn't crack the third (though maybe I should?)

Hannah

I feel the same as well! Book 2 and 3 were so boring!!!

Aimee

I wonder if it was an editing/production issue. Like when authors get told ‘this ought to be two books’ or ‘you must do five in this series’ and the later books sometimes seem sort of half-assed or rushed.

Hannah

I think it’s just our taste tbh. Some books don’t suit some people and unfortunately there wasn’t enough romance to keep me interested :(!

Hannah

Did not finish.

1
Sophia

@Hannah now that you say that it totally makes sense lol.

I can totally see both sides! The characters – especially Zu- just got on my nerves because they were so immature. Then I thought that the whole rogue angel thing went too far after the fall of their leader. Like it was designed by a team of publicists as a forced plot line.

1
Rachel

Same! I loved the concept and the story but the characters felt so 2 dimensional that I couldn’t finish it (I don’t care how good a story is, if I don’t care about the characters then nothing matters)

I really enjoyed it. It was quite an adventure.

I read this for a book club. I liked it, but the way the first book ended made me so mad and one of the other girls went further into the series and warned me it didn’t get better. So despite some attachments to characters, I rage quit the series. ?

I enjoyed the first couple of books but I was super disappointed in the final book. It took me forever to finish and I almost didn’t =\. I hope you enjoy though if you end up reading it.

I really liked them too! But honestly the last book is meh for me like i Can clearly remember stuff that happened in the first book and a bit in the second but with the last book i just remember the end and being a little disappointed or anticlimactic i guess for me. Like i understood it but i was just hoping it’d be different

Book 1 & 2 were amazing, book 3 is a bit of a slog to begin with (introduces brand new character and spends a lot of time on them) but gets really good after that

I actually did not enjoy it. the first book was good and interesting but the second I found boring and I just couldn’t finish the third. They are well written but pretty depressing if you get attached to any of the characters. It gets pretty dark as the story goes on.

The writing is beautiful and the characters are likable. Laini Taylor is also rather clever when it comes to storytelling. Definitely give it a shot

I feel like I’m the only one who just could not get into this series. I couldn’t even finish the first book. It didn’t hold my interest at all. And for reference, I live for YA fantasy, so I was sad after seeing so many rave about it.

While the writing was good, the heroine likeable, the romance – which was a huge part of the book – made me want to throw it into the fire. Dude kills the only family she knew, and she falls in love with him because SOOO GORGEOUS and then BAM! backstory, so there is a legit reason besides the fact he’s gorgeous. I mean… what
