They just send you an email. It’s all up to the publisher and I’ve never asked for it, they just do it.

That’s the way it happened for me though, not sure if there is a way to ask for it.

After working with publicist for awhile they just add you to the pre-approved list. Some do it, some don’t. Sometimes I go in to Net Galley or Edelweiss and see that I am pre-approved for a lot more than I thought.

I believe after you review enough of their books that they think you’re a good fit for what they publish, they pre-approve you. It will usually take a while, over a year. I’m pre-approved for several publishers, but it took a while. I read quite a few of their books – like 15 or 20 (?) before I got pre-approved.

There is no particular way to get auto-approved. It is entirely up to the publishers other than do lots of reviews for their books. If they want to auto approve you it will show up in your account.

I was pre-approved by a publisher after I read and reviewed a book. That’s all it took, one book. They emailed me. I recently received an email from the author of that book asking me to join their mailing list for previews into book 2. I dont know what sets it off though. How they chose some over others.

I was auto-approved after a few reviews for some publishers. I have I think five auto-approved ones now

NetGalley has a lot of little quirks, at the publisher’s and sometimes authors whims, Barbour Publishing is one of the ones that I read one book and while I am not auto-approved with them, they automatically send me the next in the series as soon as it’s available. In another case, I had an author approve me for a book the publisher had already denied me.
