I have a free e-book if he’s into that. It is a stand alone, YA fantasy novella. You can find the link embedded in the title page at: http://www.richardhstephens.com/
Louis Sachar, Carl Hiaasan, and Gary Paulsen all write for boys that age. For Carl Hiaasan, make sure to get titles with one word, Like Hoot. Two word titles are for adults (Tourist Season).
My 13yo son likes anything by Rick Riordan, and things I’ve vetted by Neil Gaiman (“The Graveyard Book,” “Good Omens”). He’s also a history buff so he reads a lot of nonfiction in that area.
The Illuminae trilogy by Katie Kaufman and Jeff Kristoff is good but maybe alittle too old for him so as I would advice my mother when she asks me for recommendations is read it first.
Maybe…R. A. Salvatore. They’re a bit dark and kinda gory: The Icewind Dale Trilogy The Dark Elf Trilogy The Cleric Quintet Legacy of the Drow Paths of Darkness The Hunter’s Blades Trilogy
I’m a 6-12 librarian and these are a few of my students’ favorites: Alex Rider series by Horowitz, Rick Riordan’s books, Warrior series by Erin Hunter, Rangers Apprentice series by Flanagan, Mike Lupica’s YA sports novels, Tim Green’s YA sports novels, Keeper of the Lost Cities by Messenger, Lord of the Rings, Enders’ Game, Brandon Mull’s books.
Shelley Swick the movie was good. Just wish they were able to find an child actor who could accurately represent with the actual diagnosis and not facial prosthetics.
That would have been great. I think it’s a very rare condition and it comes with a lot of medical problems that would make it hard to find someone that can also act.
1. Harry Potter by J.K Rowling 2. The Last Apprentice by Joseph Delaney 3. The Secret Seven by Enid Blyton 4. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan (Anything by him written is great) 5. Adults and YAs love it…my book club read the first one due to one daughter of a member recommending it….and most of us bought and read the remaining books in the series!
I am not a serial killer series by Dan Brown, it’s leading character is a teenage boy. It’s pretty good too. YA fiction. With some fantasy ( monsters and stuff )
I have 11 year old boys that read a high school level and they have really like the Warriors series, Land of Stories, The Hunger Games, Divergent Series, Gender Games, and the Girl who… series.
The original “Mark of Zoro” It is to date one of the best depictions of what life in old California was like way back then. Also, it is nothing like the movies that were loosely based on it. Instead, it is about a young man who sets out to right the wrongs that were being done.
Count of Monte Cristo? Three Musketeers?
Those two are too advance for a 13 year old kid.
@Khamil I read them at that age.
