Radiolab! So many interesting topics discussed through story and interviews. I am never bored listening to them. I loved it so much I began listening from the very beginning.
Have you tried audio dramas? They’re fiction podcasts / usually serialized, like an old time radio play. These are some of my favorites: The Big Loop – is like an anthology or short stories, kind of Black Mirror-esque. The Far Meridian – about a girl with agoraphobia who travels in a lighthouse that moves through space and time The Bright Sessions – about a therapist that deals with patients with superpowers.
I listen to Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert and Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin. Dax’s is often hilarious. I listen while I’m running and I have to stop running sometimes because I’m laughing too hard. I love a good celebrity interview.
I love him, and his podcast. Sometimes I feel like he really likes to talk about himself, lol. Also, he misrepresents his hometown ( I live there, lol) as a little more Detroit than it is.
I’m a true crime junkie and have loved: In the Dark, Small Town Dicks, Happy Face Killer, Serial, Dr Death, Believed and 16 Shots.
I also like the classics like: This American Life, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, and Freakanomics
(It’s Been a Minute with Sam Sanders and Armchair Expert round our my week’s listen ?)
My husband enjoys lifestyle podcasts related to CrossFit and the Paleo Diet (we’re currently listening to “is this podcast Paleo?” as we drive home from Christmas and it’s pretty decent.
This Podcast Will Kill You is all about diseases/epidemics and does a deep dive in to the biology and disease history. I’m a biologist so it is my favorite!
Stuff You Missed in History Class, British History Podcast, Ridiculous History, History of English, Fictional, Sawbones, My Brother My Brother and Me, Disney Origin Stories, What Really Happened, Han and Matt Know it All, Ask a Manager, Science Vs (I may have an addiction). They are all well researched, and related to topics I’m interested in.
-The History Chicks, women in history, extremely well researched -Stuff you missed : interesting & forgotten moments in history -Dressed: history of fashion & im not a fashion person -Jen Hatmaker -for the love -Ben Franklin’s World: early american histroy, well researched, talks about all aspects women, slavery, foindkng fathers, illnesses, food -Pantsuit politics -moderate republican and a moderate democrat discuss the news. -Committed -explores all kinds of marriages -Conversations with people who hate me : people talk to someone who posted a hateful response to their social media post -Lore: folklore
I prefer true crime……. *Sword and Scale (it’s very detailed true crime stories that can be extremely disturbing. Like really disturbing) *This is Why We Drink ( true crime and paranormal stories that is much more lighthearted. Like talking with a couple girlfriends in the bar) *My Favorite Murder (same as above) *Dr Death *Serial *Last Podcast on the Left
Why Won’t You Date Me? Nicole Byer (from Nailed It) is hilarious but it is definitely adults only- she makes me laugh out loud every episode. Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness (from Queer Eye)is also really good- he picks a topic and interviews an expert for 30 min- really eclectic topics.
Imagined Life is a new favorite. The narrator describes a famous person’s life story as if you are that person and slowly you begin to figure out who “you” are. It’s so good!
The Popcast with Knox and Jamie is hilarious. It pop culture focused. Theyre also super southern and Christian. There’s some church talk but no preaching.
True Crime Obsessed. They recap true crime documentaries with comedic flare (while remaining respectful toward victims) and i almost pee my pants laughing every week.
There are quite a few that I listen to that are already mentioned, so I will talk about the one I haven’t seen on this list yet. Nerdette because they interview all kinds of people (famous or not) that I would never had known about. It’s funny and light while serious at times. Recently, they had Barbara Kingsolver on to talk about her latest book. I had already bought it, but it made me even more excited to read it!
Saving this post to make a list of all the podcasts I should check out. Currently I listen to Outlander Cast – devoted to the Outlander series on Starz and Black Girl Nerds – a podcast not exclusively for Black women, but it is a show exclusively for nerds on a variety of topics.
My tastes are all over the map. The Daily Show Ears Podcast, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Incident Report by ZDogg, Cold Coffee, and Terrible, Thanks for Asking.
My favorite is Afford Anything with Paula Pant. She is a wonderful resource for financial advice, the show is never dry, and she has excellent interviewing skills. Her show focuses on the FIRE movement (achieve Financial Independence and Retire Early) and a lot of Real Estate investing. The show can stand alone as a financial resource, and she makes it easy to weed out the real estate stuff if you’re not into that. Her tag line is you can afford anything but not everything. Money, like any resource (time etc) is limited so you have to determine how to best spend it ? Before I started listening to her of course I listened to Stories We’d Tell in Bars! That’s why I use PodBean!!!
commenting so i can follow along. but i do enjoy how did this get made, my favorite murder, last podcast on the left, and recently i found obscure with michael ian black where he reads jude the obscure and comments on it. funny stuff.
Mike Rowe’s ‘The Way I Heard It’. They are only about 10 minutes. He bills it as the podcast for those with a short attention span. It is amusing unknown stories about people.
My radio wasn’t working so I listened to it during a six-hour trip and it sure passed the time. Long-time fan of the NPR show, anyway, but had missed many so it was so much fun to catch up and laugh out loud and guess along as I drove the interstate!
I love Happier with Gretchen Rubin and her sister Liz Craft. It’s basically tips on how to live a happier life and it also ties into the four tendencies of your personality. It’s informative and has really helped me understand myself And others. I listen to it in the morning when I get ready for work.
Clearly i am missing out….any other nerds out there that can recommend a semi nerd edutainment type podcast? Not really into crime….and i like to laugh.
Sawbones is great if you are into medical history, Omnibus Project and Part Time Genius both can be funny and are about random topics of general interest
#dumbgaypolitics hilarious podcast by the ladies who used to be on People’s Couch on Bravo.. tell all sorts of stories both political and not with a fresh perspective. Not safe for children or work.
For relaxing/ASMR voice (but not the dumb mouth sounds just a nice voice that can give you the chills), Bryan’s ASMR World, the Tea Shop owner one, especially. It’s relaxing but also very funny in subtle ways. The Ponzi scheme one is also very good and the realtor.
The Popcast – Great and hilarious pop culture discussions plus interesting recommendations of books, movies, etc.
Thank you! Looking up now.
Is this the New York times Popcast? There are quite a few options with this name!
@Amanda No, it’s the Popcast with Knox and Jamie. I’m used to the shorthand and should have been clearer.
Radiolab! So many interesting topics discussed through story and interviews. I am never bored listening to them. I loved it so much I began listening from the very beginning.

Oh! If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, the podcast Gilmore Guys is what got me into podcasts.
I suggest googling “podcast about x” to find something that interests you and go from there ?

If you liked Serial the podcast Undisclosed is amazing if you haven’t already listened to it

Omg listening to first season of In the Dark! Thanks for the recommendations
Again With This: Beverly Hills, 90210!
Looking all these up- thank you! Also, my mom just told me about The Moth.
Stay Tuned with Preet Bharara, This American Life, Serial
My Dad Wrote a Porno. Son reads his father’s book to his friends and they critique it. Hilarious!!!!

@Lisa – me too!
This is love, Criminal, Court Junkie, This American Life, Getting Curious with JVN (because who doesn’t love JVN) and Serial of Course.
