I love his novels. I can’t put them down

1
Carmen

@Lisa I havent read any of the novellas, have you? Somehow the idea of a short story didnt appeal as the suspense in the others builds and builds which can really happen in a short story – can it?

1
Lisa

I’m not a fan of short stories. I love a good book. Although with certain authors I would maybe give it a try

The best one would be very difficult. Best ones this year Into the Darkest Corner Elizabeth Haynes – Murderabilia Craig Robertson. Anything by Peter James

New Terry Hayes – “The Year of the Locust” …. but not until AUGUST next year!

My suggestions would be historical fiction, so I don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for. I’m currently reading “His Bloody Project” though and that is amazing

Not recent but one of my fave crime reads of all time is Black and Blue by Ian Rankin. The absolute pinnacle of his Rebus series IMHO. In the same way that On Beulah Heights was Reg Hill’s best Pascoe & Dalziel novel.

I read those and it made me want to shake his mother vigorously by the windpipe.

1
Billy

I don’t think I read anything more awful. I’ll be honest. It was so terrible that I thought it must be exaggerated until I read his brother Richards book as well.

0
Billy

I mean the actions of his mother by the way, not the book itself. The book is excellent.

0
Dayna

Me too, I just could fathom how a mother could do that too her own child, and then turn around and act like everything was his fault, it was so good to see that he ended up getting a job he wanted and the women he deserved! I’m yet to read Richards book!

Wasn’t sure what sort of book you were after but my absolute favourite book ever is The Magus by John Fowles which is definitely meaty and addictive! Although not traditional crime it could possibly be classed as one of the first psychological thrillers as the twists and turns blow your mind! Seriously meaty and seriously addictive ?

The Farm by Tom Rob Smith – best book I’ve read this year…not exactly crime, but has all the components of a psychological mystery and a final denouement. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Farm-Tom-Rob-Smith/dp/1847375693
