Both but I’d start with year of wonders… I loved the fact that it was based on a real village during the plague

For me its Year of Wonder while I did like People of the Book I did not feel as connected to the characters in it.

Year of Wonders. I did not expect to like book about a plague village, but I read it twice (with a few years in between readings). You can google photographs of the actual village.
People of the Book hands down. Did not like Year of Wonders—hated the husband.
