I just bought a copy of this at work on the recommendation of a friend. She blew through all three in less than a week and swears they are amazing. I’m skeptical, but I paid $4 so I can’t complain. I haven’t started it yet.

Glad I’m not the only one. Trying to read it too and am just going to quit. There’s other books I’d rather spend my time on.

I had a hard time with the beginning of this book. I abandoned it, but want to try again at some point. I’ve heard the whole series is great. I know…this isn’t much help. 🙂

The problem is I go back to school – work (I’m a teacher) on Thursday and my time will no longer be my time 🙁 (and I’ve got a bunch more on deck 🙂 )

I think you should set it aside and read something that you’ve been excited to read since you have a short amount of time to get some reading done. That’s probably what I’ll do with this book.

@Lita I liked it better than the first!

1
Lita

@Teresa oh good! I’ve got the third one on deck, too…

1
Kate

It was a beach read for me, and it sufficed. The movie actually looks better than the book was…I will read the second one on another trip. But I am not wasting the 4 hours I have in the evening on it after work.

I didn’t finish.

Andrea

I finished, but the characters don’t get any less wealthy, shallow, or self-absorbed. I was stunned by how differently I viewed the book than all those 5-star reviewers. It’s basically the Asian Kardashians. And I detest the original Kardashians, so…

Is is really? I hate the Kardashian’s too. Maybe I will pass on this one. I never had any interest in reading it except that everyone on here kept saying how great it was.

1
Andrea

Every character is introduced as carrying *this* bag and wearing *those* shoes or having *that* watch or owning *whatever* furniture… all the things about which I just couldn’t care less. And the characters do mean-girl things to each other throughout the book. Blech.

1
Andrea

Of course, I’m in the middle of the biggest “purge” mentality of my life – I just want to get rid of everything I own and simplify, much to my kids’ chagrin! ? Maybe if I had read the book during a different phase of life I would’ve liked it better.

1
LeendahQuestion author

@Andrea I know, that’s how I’m feeling. It’s hard to get into a book when you can’t empathize with the characters 🙁

I loved this book so much! The author’s snark was so much fun. Yes, some of the supporting characters were bratty, but they helped show a contrast with the main characters, who were great.
