Read the information about the book, than dead five pages of chapter one

Seems like a logical thing to do. I still have trouble even after doing that lol

Haha that happens to me too. I have a hard time deciding

1
Sam

I get so stressed looking at how many books on my shelves I still have to read! I don’t know if I’ll finish them in my lifetime…also doesn’t help I keep buying more ?

2
Trista

Story of my life!

1
Trista

This is how my book pile grows too! I can’t decide so fuck it, let’s buy a new one!

2
Emily

With stores like Half-Priced Books, how can you stop??

1
Sam

Precisely and all those trees that died to give us pretty books, their deaths shall not be in vain!!!

2
AnitaQuestion author

I was already at one Half Priced Books store today. Going to a different one tomorrow. (I already bought so many today lol??)

1
Kathy

Because I have so many books, I go alphabetically by authors.

Good Idea

I try to avoid “picking” books out of the pile because that’s how I ended up with huge piles to begin with, because then I inadvertently end up leaving books unread for years, so whatever is on top of the 5 piles is what gets read, and I’m not adding to the collection anymore; getting rid of like 99% of them lol.

AnitaQuestion author

Good strategy since you have so many. OMG 99%. Thats alot

I always try to pick a “completed” series. I hate starting a book and then waiting for months or years until the next one comes out

I understand. The wait is torture

First one in the pile

Honestly I base it on the cover, then the blurb, then based on if I have read the author before… Whatever grabs my attention first, gets read.

With a whole lot of research and what I most feel like trying out at that moment

I have a system. I have separate TBR piles based on genre: sci-fi, fantasy, superhero, mystery, and some others. I typically alternate between sci-fi and fantasy. So when I finish a sci-fi, I open up my fantasy samples collection on my kindle. I sort by how long they have been sitting in there and then I go through them from oldest to newest and read the descriptions of each one. I skip some if I just recently read part of that series, or that author, or am just not in the mood for that kinda book right now.

After that, I futz around a while and try to make a decision, and then eventually, I pick a sample that sounds like fun and start reading. 🙂

wow that really is a system

Probably unpopular but when the library gets the book in I read whatever it is, have like 6 I’m waiting on now. I donated my entire book collection years ago and kindles keep breaking on me.

I’m stuck on the safehold seties right now. Technically it’s sci-fi but it’s really more fantasy. I’m on book 4 of 9.

Highly recommend

Have you read Weber’s Honor Harrington series? I kinda like it better, less technical details, though I have read safehold twice.

0
Ric

@Richard this is my first Weber series, really enjoying it.

0
Richard

@Ric when you’re done with safehold definitely pick it up. Book one is “On Basilisk Station”

0
Trevor

Being I dont come across new series I want to read. If one does pop up, then as soon as I’m done with what I’m reading currently then I start on the new one.

I had to make a list of what I want to read. I try to mix up genre a bit so that I don’t get stuck into a reading rut.

Pick the one that’s a long series so the next 10 choices are already made.

@Dayton my list is a challenge/dare that my friends put together for me…

0
AnitaQuestion author

0
Hailey

Yeah feel free to come back to it if you need something to read….there are plenty of books there lmao

0
Hailey

Oh and I’m only on a feast for crows on this list….so 3 books down and a ton of books to go

0
AnitaQuestion author

I may come back to reference your list lol. Its a good list of books

0
Zebron

Hailey Halter, when you get to the wheel of time, don’t read new spring first. Always read in order of publication.

I hope you don’t misplace your lists or lose or pictures of your lists!

@Anita Really depends on my mood after my last book and if it was good or not. If not I have a few go to authors ?

1
AnitaQuestion author

ah okay. I get how a mood after finishing a book can dictate what you read next

1
Azsa

I go through and read each books synopsis in the order they appear on my kindle. Whichever one sounds best is the one i read next. If i start one and im not into it i move on to the next one.

Dez

At this point?? Since they are all on my phone, I’ll fling the list and whatever my finger lands on, that’s what I read

1
Reply
AnitaQuestion author

So all random then?

0
Dez

@Anita so far. Now if i land on one that’s in a series, I’ll start with the first one and will read the series. But other than that, yes all random. I have over 1,000 books on my phone, so I found choosing randomly is the best way for me

0
Dez

I’m on goodreads. Not sure if U are. But if U friend me, and see a book in my “want to read” pile that you may want to read. Let me know and I’ll be happy to send it to you. Cuz i have the digital copy of everything in my want to read list. And i update it daily

Normally I decide on what genre I am craving then I go with that. If I don’t have, that particular genre; I will go based off, what I have held off reading for a while.

1. I’m part of a bunch of online book clubs, I look at which book was read the most in those book clubs.
2. I also read a book if a movie/ tv show/ comic book is coming out that is related to it.
3. I keep track of all the books I’ve read in specific categories and try to keep them all balanced. If I haven’t read a lot of books from the 60s or Horror books compared to other decades and genres I choose a book in those categories
4. I look at which has the most awards and best reviews
