@Sierra, I found the writing terrible; overexplaining (like he doesn’t trust the reader to understand what he means), two-dimensional characters, boring and loooong architecture lectures, rapey scenes. Not my book.
One learns a lot from this great historical fiction read…every time I see a cathedral now I look at it and understand what and how it was built.. characters are just not that demensional back then..not sure why he had to put those rapey scenes in it but just skip it if you don’t like it…I skip stuff all the time.
So good, I was happy it was long. Probably the longest book I had ever read at the time and I was still disappointed to turn the last page. My all time fav along with the sequel World Without End.
Just finished reading it! Absolutely loved it! Wouldn’t have minded it being longer. When you read something that you really enjoy, it doesn’t matter how long it is, except for holding it. Better to read on a tablet!
@Elle that’s an understandable viewpoint. I’m about 80 pages in since I’ve posted this and there hasn’t been a hard mention of religion yet except maybe a little witchcraft. It seems to be more about the construction of a church from an architectural standpoint, but that might change further in ?
I’m wondering if anybody else who’s finished it found it to be religiously heavy? That might throw me off down the road if it were to get very involved.
Great book!!!!
I loved it
Great one
So good!!
Loved it

Best book ever!
Is it a very challenging read?
@Sierra I found it to be an easy read but sometimes violent- so that might make the hard at points.
My husband and I just got that book to read together. Sounds like it’s a great read, though it’s going to take awhile to get through!
@Lauri between a puppy and a toddler I get less than an hour of reading time a day haha, I feel you
I loved it.
Amazing!!! You won’t regret it!
Loved it. Took about 100 pages to get into it. Lots of details but I think its needed to get a full picture in your head of what is happening.
Read the first two books but the last one was hard to get into.
I loved it. It was fantastic. Read it.
Read them all. Long books, but great stories.

@Sierra, I found the writing terrible; overexplaining (like he doesn’t trust the reader to understand what he means), two-dimensional characters, boring and loooong architecture lectures, rapey scenes. Not my book.
@Martine I see, thank you!
One learns a lot from this great historical fiction read…every time I see a cathedral now I look at it and understand what and how it was built.. characters are just not that demensional back then..not sure why he had to put those rapey scenes in it but just skip it if you don’t like it…I skip stuff all the time.

I’m sitting out in the desert on this one. I didn’t like it.
Me neither I found it dragged and the writing wasn’t particularly good.
Just finished reading it! Absolutely loved it! Wouldn’t have minded it being longer. When you read something that you really enjoy, it doesn’t matter how long it is, except for holding it. Better to read on a tablet!
I loved it .
I read it a while ago, and it was good. But I got so tired of the bad guys always winning!
YES! So good. Love Ken Follett novels. Pillars is amazing.
One of my favorites! World without end is fantastic too!
One of the best books I ever read, but I like long books.

Never read it and it’s a religious book so for me is a no.

I don’t remember it ever being very religious! It talks about the religion of that time period but not outside of that
