Ooooh just not feeling the guernsey literary and potato peel pie book at all – in fact it’s gone back on my shelf! Am I missing something???

I didn’t like it either
Ditto. Good story but I didn’t care for the writing style, being all letters…got on my nerves
Me either
Good movie
@April did wonder whether the film might shed some light on it all. Might try it
I didn’t like it either
I did. It was good
Me too!!!
I read as an audiobook. Each character had their own voice. It was delightful in that manner. Like a play.
@Susan ah that might work!
Just finished watching the film coincidentally. Not read the book but amazing film!
I loved it!
I didn’t read it but absolutely loved the movie!
Loved it!
I didnt love ot either
I’m reading it at the moment, I wasn’t sure to begin with but I’m 80 odd pages in now and getting into it.
Loved the movie, book wasn’t an easy read or as good as the movie!
I loved it, but then thats what makes the world go around!
I’m not a fan of letter type of books-couldn’t finish it.
Agree…it’s difficult
Tried twice, mine is back on the shelf too. Someday I will be determined to try again
The movie was better. I think it’s the structure of the way the story is told.
It was different, but I thought it was cute.
Loved it!
That being said, there are books you’ll love I won’t. Reading is personal. Pursue what fills your soul.
I couldn’t get into the book but loved the movie,
Love the movie…not the book
The fact that it was letters all the way through put me off, but I really enjoyed it when I got used to it
Not everyone likes all the same things. I happened to love it, but sometimes I read (or try to) books that people here have raved about and I am left scratching my head. And sometimes people mention certain authors as their faves and I totally hate their writing style and books. I just feel that sometimes popular reads are expected to be loved by all and that should never be the case. To make a long story short: no worries!! Find something you like better and enjoy!! ☺
Ugh I hated it. Total snooze fest
Good as a movie
Movie was really good
I really enjoyed every minute of it.
I loved it
It took me a very long time to get into it, but I enjoyed it in the end.
I loved it!!!
Loved it!
No you aren’t. Very bland
No, you’re not. I couldn’t force myself to get into it either.
I would say you aren’t missing the best book of all times but, if you had enjoyed it at least a little bit, you could have found it a nice simple read.
I intend to watch the movie, curious to see how they transformed the book into a screenplay.
The movie was really good
I loved it, especially the narrative voice
No, I really didn’t enjoy the way it was written in letter form and the story was a little weak for me. I was disappointed as the subject matter was something in really thought I’d fall in love with.
I really enjoyed it.It was a lovely gentle read and gave an idea of what it was like for people living through the war on Guernsey
I agree with you I could not get into it at all
I loved it and the film was great too.
Loved the book & the movie , it was my best read for 2018
Loved both book and film.
Oh yes it’s a wonderful book keep going!
Watch the film! I gave up with the book but loved the film
I struggled with the start because I didn’t know it was going to be written entirely as letters. It took me ages to get into it, but once I got there, I enjoyed the story. If you don’t like it, send it to a charity shop so someone else can give it a go without paying full price.
@Sian good idea about charity shop but gonna leave it on my shelf for a bit in case I give it another go
I saw the movie – it held my attention.
Loved the book, not the movie.
I really enjoyed the book.
I didn’t like it.
I started that one for book club but couldn’t get into it either.
I didn’t think it was great literature but an easy & interesting read (I didn’t mind the letter format) & I appreciated the historical context.
I liked it
I liked it but really felt it was a collection of letters rather than a book. I love it more than the movie.
The movie is excellent!!!!
Enjoyed it and the film
Liked the movie better which is unusual.
Fantastic read
I found it boring. DNF
I wasn’t crazy about it either.
I loved it
Sorry. I really liked it.
Oh, I loved it, so much. Sorry it’s not your thing. To each their own.
I didn’t enjoy it tbh.
I know I enjoyed it, but remember very little about it.
Just added to my tbr list!
Despite its being “letters” which I normally really dislike, I loved the book. Saw the film recently & thought it nowhere near as good
