Getting one with a light is essential! Brill for travelling and commuting. I appreciate the”try a sample” option on amazon, feels like being in a book shop where you can read a few paragraphs to see if you like yhe writing style.

I bought one a few months back when Amazon were selling refurbished ones really cheap. I got it out of the box to have a look at it, set up my account on it etc then put it back in the box and it’s been there since. I do read the odd book on my iPad kindle app but it just doesn’t feel right not to have a book in my hands.
When I travel which I often do for work, people look at me weirdly when I put the iPad away and get a book out to read :p

Thought I would never say this. Love the smell of books. Old ones, new ones. Love the crack of a new book BUT I got my kindle two years ago and haven’t looked back. Can order practically anything. Easy when you go on holiday. Never run out of reading material. The drawback is (apart from the smell) is that when something goes wrong – it is very irritating and very upsetting. My kindle died after two years. Still got my books on icloud so that is ok. At the moment am using my ipad but before I go away again I will buy the paper white.

I love being able to browse new books and download free chapters before committing to buy. It’s great for reading in the middle of the night without having to turn the light on. The worst thing is being in the middle of an amazing book and losing your charger! (Have to hide mine from the children). Another downside is not being able to share books amongst friends. I still love real books a lot more, but would recommend having both.

I love technology and gadgets but I can’t bring myself to even entertain the idea of getting a ‘reader’.
But being a book binder by trade, I’m always going to need the feel and smell of a dusty old book…

Absolutely! I was always against the idea of a reader, and as I read a lot, I used to go everywhere with a huge weight because if books. Besides, I loved what everybody else here love: the smell, the texture, etc. But over the years, between what I had to read for my studies/work and what I was reading for pleasure, I definitely was carrying with me more than 4-5 big books everywhere. I took a long time to decide (for me buying a reader was like “selling my romanticism”), and after a while I bought one a year ago. Kindle paperwhite, it took some time to get used to it, but after a few weeks it was great. Carrying so many books, having dictionaries incorporates, saving the parts of the book that you love, not turning the lights on if you’re reading at night. Really amazing. It’s not the same feeling of the physical book, but I very useful for people who, like me, have to read and likes to read a lot.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE me ereader (I have a Sony). It is small, convenient, and always on me. I am not much of a gadget fan, but this is one thing I don’t think I can do without anymore!

I too used to be on the fence about whether I wanted a Kindle or not but one day I decided to jump off the fence and buy one. So glad I did but be warned: downloading books is very very addictive! 🙂

I have the Kindle Paperwhite and am in LOVE. I believe that there is nothing better than the feel and smell of a REAL BOOK but at the same time, if I didn’t have my Kindle, I wouldn’t be reading. With the Kindle I now have access to SO MUCH MORE. And so what I do is, if I absolutely love the book (it becomes one of my favorites) I will buy the book after reading it. This way I get the best of both worlds.

lol Felicity, I so agree with you there about downloading books being addictive. I have set myself a limit of only downloading books for £3 or less ! Then again there are worst things you could be addicted to, like chocolate or wine ???

I have a kindle fire and an ap on my iPhone but have recently been reading some Daniel Silva books in paperback. Good to feel a real book but miss being able to read in bed at night with the light off. Just as long as you are reading.

@Pauline the kindle paperwhite has side lighting. Which can also be turned off and brightness adjusted. Which is awesome.

If my house was on fire, the first thing I would save (apart from the family of course!) would be my kindle. Loooooove it 🙂

I hope you like the book club Mrs. Mansellyn Estrella! It’s big but everyone is so nice and helpful. Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions. I told my hubby I wanted one for Christmas. I said either the Kindle Paperwhite or the Voyage. I don’t think it matters either way though, probably just depends on what I want to spend.

I have a Kobo e-reader and love, love, love it …… the ONLY drawback is that it not so easy to back -page. I still buy and read ordinary books, but oh the convenience !! Used to travel with a whole bag of books for a weekend away …. now, voila, just me and my Kobo !!!

I got a kobo a couple of years ago (to get with the times), I downloaded a ton of books, read a handful, but missed my real books too much, it is now sitting in a drawer. I get their convenience, but they are not for everyone, and certainly not for me!

Several years ago, I started e-reading on a Kobo, and updated that every few years. Last year, Santa brought me a 7″ Samsung tablet for Christmas. I LOVE my tablet; I have the MoonReader Pro app (also on my phone and my 10″ tablet), so I can read anywhere. We recently downsized our home quite substantially, and in the “downsizing” process, all my books were donated. I haven’t looked back once…..love, love, love my ebooks! (Also love that I can borrow ebooks from the library!)
