Me??‍♀️Except it’s a ban on buying real books. I’m allowing myself to buy e-books because I’m part of a book group that read a new book every month. I am forever getting late fees from the library so I might as well buy them on Kindle

Cheater, but I completely get it. I only buy e-books anymore. I have no more room for books.

1
Audri

Haha yeah, I’m definitely cheating on the book buying ban, but thankfully it’ll only be one book this month!??I also have no more room for hard copies of books, but I still impulse buy them and stack them on my floor???

is this a thing? sorry i am unaware of a book buying ban. I dont think i bought anything mth yet unless my son did on my kindle and do those count?)

1

The why is different for everyone. I don’t because I realized I was spending money on books available at my local library and I had no intentions of reading them again anyway. I can literally take vacations with that money now.

I am on a book buying ban . Been on 1 fr a year.It makes sense for me coz I realised that I was spending a lot of money on books with no intentions of rereading them. I have saved soooo much and I use the library services n my kindle so no I’m not missing out on anything .

I have never bought books unless really necessary… I consider the libraries As God’s gift to book nerds… All the books you want arranged by author, ready and waiting whenever you want them, well, (almost always)… and not taking up any space in your own home, what more could a person ask for!!! ?

1
Reply
Christina

My thoughts exactly. I don’t need to own it. Read it for the experience and pass it on.

1
Theresa

It makes me happy just looking at my bookshelves. I don’t think I could ever decide to stop adding to my collection. I do want to go through my books and donate the ones I don’t think that I’ll ever read. The library isn’t an option for me anymore. No matter how many times I vow to return books on time to the library, I am always late!

With the Patterson/Clinton collaboration and the new RFK bio, it will be difficult to avoid buying a new book or two this month. Might as well not even try.

I’m forced to not buy any books. I’m broker then broke ???? good thing the library is FREEEEEEEE!

0
Reply
Karen

Not where I live… at least not for very much longer. As of July 1st, the privilege of using the local library will cost $60 annually.

0
Jessica

Well, I pay $65 a year for the family, but I don’t have to pay for every book I read. Technically, every public library isn’t free. Everyone pays a fee. It comes out in property taxes for those that live within City limits. For those outside of City limits you have to pay out of your pocket.

0
Karen

Jessica, for 40+ years, it’s been free for the entire area. And it’s $60/person or card, didn’t see a family discount.

0
Jessica

I’d check your property tax break down.

here here!! I have spent so much on books over the past year that I could have used that money as a down payment on a car. I love my books but I’ve become reckless. I’m not banning myself, per se, but I’m only allowing myself to purchase 3 books for the months of June, July, and August
