@Nicole its been awhile since I found one I want to read. But some James Patterson ones I got off YouTube. I’d rather get from thevluvrsry because I can download them and not have to use my data plan when out if the house. But once in awhile ill find one in YouTube
@Karen they don’t appear to be bootlegged. But I wonder….is it illegal to make a recording of yourself reading a book and publishing to YouTube. I always wanted to try narration.
I don’t think it is legal to read a whole book on YouTube, I am not a lawyer. I did stumble upon a whole Audible book that someone recorded and posted on YouTube once, and if that is the case it is definitely illegal, same as posting a TV show. We readers have to do what we can to keep books alive, if authors and publishers can’t make a living doing it, we all suffer. It worries me that there are so few readers.
Yup! I listened to quite a few of Haruki Murakami books. The girl with a dragon tattoo trilogy His Dark Materials trilogy And some of Discovery of Witches before the they found out it was on YouTube and took it off.
I think a lot depends on whether or not the YouTube recording has been copied directlyfrom a commercially copyright narration. If it has, that’s illegal and a bootleg. Authors and narrators deserve to be compensated for their creative output.
Yes — after my mom had cataract surgery she was bored out of her mind because she couldn’t even read to pass the recovery time. We’re too broke to buy audiobooks, but I found her favorite book – The Enchanted April – as a complete audiobook on YouTube… Over 8 hours of her favorite story — so wonderful! Before that I used it when my oldest was sick and needed to hear Winnie the Pooh (the originals) but I wasn’t well enough to read out loud for long periods… Such a Godsend! I’m so grateful to the people who put audiobooks on YouTube!
@Denise my overdrive doesn’t have any audiobooks. Only ebooks (which I also love). I think my library uses a different format for audiobooks. But maybe I’m missing something?
Yes….that’s my first go to but many are not on YouTube. Its like I struck gold if I found one I wanted to read on YouTube. ?
@Julia I noticed that but oh what a fun find. What was the best one you found on there?

@Miriam I just searched audiobooks and there they were. I don’t think the can be downloaded. Just discovered so not exactly sure if there are quirks.
Thank you, I’ll look it up ?
You can use anydvd to convert the video to mp3. There are also free software options online.
I do this for books for my kiddos!
I will check it out
Also Scribd is pretty awesome. 8$ a month for unlimited audio and e books. Amazon audible is toooo expensive. IMO.
How is the selection
@Judi excellent. So far anyways. It doesn’t have every book I search but 90%

@Karen You are absolutely spot on.
@Kathy, it may be if the book has copywrite protections ( I think life of the author + 75 years?) But, Public Domain would be fine.
