Im not sure so im just looking for anything you can recommend. It’s for my sister in law, i started christmas shopping and her mother said she wants books but she isn’t sure what genre she likes.

@Meagan Then why not talk to her about books when you see her to try and get an idea, better than just guessing. Or buy book vouchers so she can pick her own.

Aru Shah and the End of Time

@Cindee thank you! that looks awesome. The only book that came to mind for me was the narnia chronicles or harry potter and I think those might be above her reading level yet.

@Kerris apparently she never reads, her mom never read to her and she can’t remember the last time she read a book. My mother in law knows I read a ton and was hoping I could introduce her to some good books, especially since her reading level is getting below grade level. So I was hoping to grab some cute fantasy type books for now and then feel her out for what she likes. Her tv shows don’t give me much to go on, she watched Monster high and my little pony.

@Kerris I think she only became interested in books because last time we had her over for a sleep over she say I was reading and she wanted to know what I was reading and why I preferred reading over watching tv. It was kind of a culture shock for her.

@Meagan you can get my little pony books! My daughter loves them and as far as I’m concerned Harry potter is always a winner (ive converted several non readers with Harry’s help)?

I loved Geronimo Stilton books when I was her age! I didn’t read much back then, but fell in love with those. Harry Potter also sounds like a good idea! I read it last year and I think kids her age and maybe even younger would love it.

Also, Wonder is a really good book!

same! but not sure if that stuff still scares her, she’s started watching shows like Monster high but not sure if that counts as being actually spooky, I’ve never actually watched it with her.

I’ll see if I can think of some more suggestions! Both my niece and nephew love to read, so it’s hard to keep track of everything they’ve read lol

I think once her reading level improves some she would enjoy The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken!

I would suggest the Redwall books. (Older, sure. But seriously fun. A real wonderful escape and my utter favorite at that age.)

Little House on the Prarie series. There about 4 or 5 books. The first is Little House in the Big Woods. Another set is Indian in the Cubbard. There are (I think) 3 of those.

I hated reading when I was young (couldn’t sit still.) First book I read was Searching for Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede. It involves a princess who refuses to be the damsel in distress. Still love it.

I also like The Four Kingdoms books by Melanie Cellier and anything by Robin McKinley.

All Fantasy, but great reads.
