What does she like to read?
Im not sure so im just looking for anything you can recommend. It’s for my sister in law, i started christmas shopping and her mother said she wants books but she isn’t sure what genre she likes.
@Meagan Then why not talk to her about books when you see her to try and get an idea, better than just guessing. Or buy book vouchers so she can pick her own.
Aru Shah and the End of Time
@Cindee thank you! that looks awesome. The only book that came to mind for me was the narnia chronicles or harry potter and I think those might be above her reading level yet.
@Kerris apparently she never reads, her mom never read to her and she can’t remember the last time she read a book. My mother in law knows I read a ton and was hoping I could introduce her to some good books, especially since her reading level is getting below grade level. So I was hoping to grab some cute fantasy type books for now and then feel her out for what she likes. Her tv shows don’t give me much to go on, she watched Monster high and my little pony.
@Kerris I think she only became interested in books because last time we had her over for a sleep over she say I was reading and she wanted to know what I was reading and why I preferred reading over watching tv. It was kind of a culture shock for her.
@Meagan you can get my little pony books! My daughter loves them and as far as I’m concerned Harry potter is always a winner (ive converted several non readers with Harry’s help)?
@Kerris thank you ^_^
I loved Geronimo Stilton books when I was her age! I didn’t read much back then, but fell in love with those. Harry Potter also sounds like a good idea! I read it last year and I think kids her age and maybe even younger would love it.
Also, Wonder is a really good book!
And Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Any of the Judy Moody books by Megan McDonald! I read them when I was a kid i think I was in like 5th grade, definitely elementary school. Theyre so funny!
Jessica Lynn DeVos I think my sister read all those 🙂 great suggestion thank you ^_^
My daughter is 10, she loves this series!
thank you! these look awesome as well
Very welcome!
Loved goosebumps books at that age
same! but not sure if that stuff still scares her, she’s started watching shows like Monster high but not sure if that counts as being actually spooky, I’ve never actually watched it with her.
My 8 year old likes the dork diaries
thank you ^_^
😮 looks kind of like bridgette jones diaries for kids
It’s super good. I’m 13, and I love them there are 13 out right now. I have 3 of the books and asked for the newest book for Christmas.
Animorphs are good too
I might read that too, looks interesting
@Meagan Yes they are great books read them when I was around that age.
My daughter is 9 and leans toward graphic novels. She likes Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, Hilo, Dragonbreath, Smile and Bad Kitty
Oh I remember when the first captain underpants came out. Ill have to check some of those out, she might like them if they are funny 🙂
@Meagan the “My Weird School” Series is funny
The Emily Windsnap series is great if she likes mermaids!
She does love things like faeries, unicorns, ponies, I imagine she would like mermaids too 🙂
love the cover art too
My niece is 9 and really loves Harry Potter, Shadow House, and A Series of Unfortunate Events!
She’s also read some Judy Blume and really liked Superfudge and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing
i think i want to work her up to books like Harry potter and chronicles of narnia and series of unfortunate events. Her reading level is a bit low but I think if she takes to reading she will like those. Maybe ill grab those as audiobooks for her
I think the audiobooks are a great idea! She may also like the Magic Treehouse books!
@Erin those look awesome!
I’ll see if I can think of some more suggestions! Both my niece and nephew love to read, so it’s hard to keep track of everything they’ve read lol
I think once her reading level improves some she would enjoy The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken!
I would suggest the Redwall books. (Older, sure. But seriously fun. A real wonderful escape and my utter favorite at that age.)
I think I might of read these as a kid as well !
Harry Potter, Dork Diaries, Amulet comic series. You can also look in line if you type in ‘books for nine year old girls’. Many options
thank you ^_^
Teacher of 9 year olds! Darren Shan, Jacqueline Wilson, Skulduggery Pleasant, Goosebumps, Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Dork Diaries, Alex Rider series, David Walliams, Geek Girl, Katherine Rundell. 🙂

@Stephanie appreciate it and i might if she likes the ones I get her and wants more 😀
The Chronicles of Prudence the foundling fairy
The magic tree house series
The land of forgotten girls
thats both sad and super cute <3
Little House on the Prarie series. There about 4 or 5 books. The first is Little House in the Big Woods. Another set is Indian in the Cubbard. There are (I think) 3 of those.
I loved Harry Potter, Little House on the Prairie series, Pippy Longstocking, & the chronicles of narnia!
Anne of Green Gables!
A wrinkle in time!
I hated reading when I was young (couldn’t sit still.) First book I read was Searching for Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede. It involves a princess who refuses to be the damsel in distress. Still love it.
I also like The Four Kingdoms books by Melanie Cellier and anything by Robin McKinley.
All Fantasy, but great reads.
