need quick and beautiful poetry suggestions?

I like quick and beautiful poetry – suggestions? I’d love a good book. Just read Milk and Honey and I’m interested in similar reads. If each poem is longer than a page, I’m basically out. Thanks in advance, book club folks!

It’s different, but I read To Stay Alive by Skila Brown earlier this year. The story of the Donner party told as a series of poems. It sounds weird, but somehow worked (found it in the Young Adult section of the library).

There is a YA book about the dust bowl told in a series of poems too. It was very good. Maybe Out of the Dust?

Btw, I absolutely loved Milk and Honey. One of the few books I paid full price for this year.

The author of Milk and Honey has a brand new book out. It is called The Sun and Her Flowers.

I’m with you on the short poems! I love Mary Oliver (I especially love Thirst and Felicity) and Ted Kooser (Delights and Shadows and Splitting an Order). Both are top 10 authors of any category. Also, Kooser does a project called American Life in Poetry where you can sign up for a short poem to come to your inbox every Monday (http://www.americanlifeinpoetry.org/). He gives a brief introduction with the poem, and his selections are incredible.

Mary Oliver is my favorite. A couple of hers make me weep like a sap every time I read them.

Thank you for the link to American Life in Poetry. I love Ted Kooser, too. You should post this. I haven’t seen any posts about poetry.

Will do! Glad to find another person who likes him. I’ve met him a couple times and he’s a really kind and generous man.

An anthology of sonnets? of Haiku? I’m loving Measure for Measure: An Anthology of Poetic Meters—and other Everyman’s Library Pocket Books generally. Beautiful little books.
