Oh yes it did. And the Queen of the Damned movie was utterly ruined apparently. I never read the book, but I read that Anne Rice was not happy with it.
@Katrin skipped that one at the time… fave book ever is IWTV and QotD is amazing… may have to go back and try TVL now that I have had time to grow as a reader.
@Christine Yes, you should really do that, because it is much better than the other two books. much more complex and darker. I have read all the books in the series and this is clearly the best
@Katrin IWTV will always be my favorite… it literally changed me as a person. I read it at 11 and it made me “grow up” in a lot of ways and got me to really think about life and all.
I have read the book before the film IWTV came out and then it is an integral part of my bookshelf. I also find the books much better than the movies. But I can understand that the book has influenced you a lot and I’m glad of that.
@Katrin I did watch the movie first…. brad and Kirsten did so well in their roles… I dont think I have felt any actor has done a book character so well since. Tom was good too… it may just be that I still at times see lestat through Louis’ eyes… and that’s not really the greatest thing at times.
@Katrin I actually think Antonio did wonderful as armand in the characterization… though I know the looks were way off… but I am not sure there was a teen or young 20 something back then that could have played the part so well and still fit with the on screen cast.
@Angelee … disregard the movie… they tried to combine TVL and QotD into one movie… but they changed so much that it was neither book. I think in the right movie Aliyah (spelling) could have done well as Akasha, but that movie writing was just BAD!
If your looking for recommendations the Tanya Huff series was good. Henry Fitzroy, Henry the 8ths illigimate son is a vampire helping solve crimes in the modern day. The TV show was awesome too.
Vampire Academy, You Suck by Christopher Moore, and this anthology I read over and over as a kid simply called Vampires edited by Jane Yolen. Interview with a Vampire is one of my favorite movies (though I never finished the book…)
And if I can segue into graphic novels/comics: Life Sucks by Jessica Abel (and some other people) and American Vampire by Scott Snyder.
@Katharine LOL. For real though! I imagine it’s challenge reading/listening to his books in public. I always meant to read the other books in the series, but somehow never got around to it.
The classics are still the best for me: Modern classic “Interview with a vampire” by Ann Rice, cause it broke with a lot of vampire stereotypes (they also became stereotypes, but who cares) and the original “Bram Stokers Dracula” (especially that book to the movie with Gary Oldman as Dracula. If you see it somewhere: have a look! It’s amazing..with so many details about the intentions of the wardrobe, make up, light, camera, musik etc..)
I can’t choose just one, but I can list my favs in some kinda order? Dracula Interview with the Vampire The Strain The Immortal Rules The Coldest Girl in Coldtown Vampire Academy Vampire Knight A Shade of Vampire Strange Angels Crave by Metz/Burns Twilight.
The Vampire Lestat. It was superior to Interview with the Vampire in every way. It made me love Lestat and see Louie as a moody narrow visioned twit. It also made me a fan for life of Anne Rice.
Dracula
Mine is an adult vampire series called The Dark Ones bu Katie MacAlister
I’ll have to check it out
I do love her books.
@Candice shes so awesome and funny. I now own 99% of her books lol
Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series ❤️
I liked the VA series. Does the Bloodline series also deal with vampires? I thought it was alchemists or something.
@Angelee it does! It is actually the continuation of the VA series since the main characters are Sydney Sage and my beloved Adrian Ivashkov ❤️
Argeneau’s by Lynsay Sands
Interview with aVampire movie left out alot
Oh yes it did. And the Queen of the Damned movie was utterly ruined apparently. I never read the book, but I read that Anne Rice was not happy with it.
To say that she was not happy is quite the understatement! I cannot wait for The Vampire Chronicle series she is developing with her son for Hulu.
Now that I think about it, I actually haven’t read that many vampire books. I guess I’d have to say The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa.
The Vampire Lestat
(The Vampire Chronicles #2)
by Anne Rice
@Katrin skipped that one at the time… fave book ever is IWTV and QotD is amazing… may have to go back and try TVL now that I have had time to grow as a reader.
@Christine Yes, you should really do that, because it is much better than the other two books. much more complex and darker. I have read all the books in the series and this is clearly the best
“None of us really changes over time. We only become more fully what we are.”
― Anne Rice, The Vampire Lestat
@Katrin IWTV will always be my favorite… it literally changed me as a person. I read it at 11 and it made me “grow up” in a lot of ways and got me to really think about life and all.
I have read the book before the film IWTV came out and then it is an integral part of my bookshelf. I also find the books much better than the movies. But I can understand that the book has influenced you a lot and I’m glad of that.

I think tale of the body thief &/or memnoch the devil were my favorites
@Christine I heard the QotD film was terrible compared to the book. I never read the book the. What’s ur thoughts?
@Angelee … the movie is a really long bad 90s music video!
@Angelee … disregard the movie… they tried to combine TVL and QotD into one movie… but they changed so much that it was neither book.
I think in the right movie Aliyah (spelling) could have done well as Akasha, but that movie writing was just BAD!
