Try Sue Grafton’s alphabet series. There is a noticeable distinction between the tone of the earlier books and those of the latter, but the main character is immutable and I love it! 🙂
If you like British cozies, try G.M. Malliet’s Max Tudor series (Max is a former MI5 spy turned Anglican priest). If you like cats, Lillian Jackson Braun’s The Cat Who… mysteries are good.
