The closest I can come up with is The Sword of Truth series. First one is Wizards First Rule.

Well, I there’s a book with two protagonistists. One is a female mechanic and the other a male mage. It’s called “the Dragons of Dorcastle” by Jack Campbell

It starts upon the females POV and the plot seems to center around “her” but he has a HUGE part and has equal importance as far as story line and character depth

@Jessica not yet, and it doesn’t look like Doors of Stone will be out in 2019 – according to interviews the full first draft is written but he’s taking it apart again and rewriting bits.

Belgariad and malleoren by David Eddings. Two series that follow on from each other and then there are two accompanying books and a third book that’s a book from the books. If he likes it hell be set.

Agree w/Dragonlance and Kingkiller, also recommend Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, and the Magicians series by Lev Grossman.

The Wardstone Chronicles? Not exactly a mage but he’s a spook, and deals with all sorts of ghast and ghosts and boggarts and witches.
