My grandson, who turned 3 in September, loves Ten Apples Up on Top and The Cat in the Hat. He also likes The Snowy Day. He loves Curious George…which is lovely for curious pre-schoolers because they can identify with George. I just bought him Cynthia Rylant’s Little Penguins. A book of few words that teaches many concepts and is beautifully illustrated.

The Snowy Day, Chu’s Day (great illustrations! Though the subsequent books are wordier and seem aimed towards older kids). Moo Baa La La La.

1-2 years, I highly recommend Leslie Petricelli books Yes Yes No No, Yummy Yucky, Quiet Loud, Huggy Kissy, and Potty. Illustrations are simple and resonate with the child. My 3 year old loves Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site, The Day the Crayons Quit series, Dragons Love Tacos, The Arctic, What Makes a Rainbow, and Pete the Cat (white shoes one and the groovy buttons one are great).

Toddlers love animals & naming them. Colorful books. Repetitive words, phrases. Eric Carle’s Brown Bear. And it’s never too young for Dr Seuss. The hidden object picture books. Formats they can hold & turn the pages of (heavy cardboard or plastic).

Such an incredible experience: reading with a child, all snuggled up. Tis a thing of beauty! ?

We’re Going On a Bear Hunt.. you can totally use this book and do different activities with it.. I’m an early childhood teacher and the kids loved that we went on a pretend bear hunt during outdoor play
