The Postmistress was a great book!
My favorite is “Katherine” by Anya Seton. “Desiree” by Annemarie Selinko. Also “Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follett. Outlander, though it has the time-travel element, is actually a good historical series.
Philippa Gregory is a fabulous author of tutor fiction. C.W. Gortner is also fabulous!
The first book that probably turned me on to historical fiction was Timeline by Michael Crichton. I love Outlander… long books though so depends what u like
Outlander series is great. Though i wouldn’t call it a light read.

Alison Weir is good. The Matthew Shardlake books by CJ Sansom are among my favourites.
