Try switching between different series… Gives you a bit of a break in between em..

Magician by Raymond feist. It was originally published as a single volume, though I’ve seen it split into magician apprentice and magician master.

The author did write many books in the same world but it’s more generational than a single storyline.

I disagree…only in that I think you have to also read Silverthorn and A Darkness at Sethanon. The trilogy is called the Riftwar Saga. There are then quite a few saga’s within the world that makes up the Riftwar Cycle. All worth a read but if you read Magician then definitely read the next two books.

@Greg I’m not going to say you’re wrong because it’s been over a decade since I read these books, but I thought silverthorn and sethanon were about the dragon priests not about kelewan or the rift.

Not so much about Kelewan, though I’m sure Pug goes back there at some point in those books, but definitely about the rift and the dark elves/dragon priest in disguise using the power of rifts to bring the return of the Valheru. It all ties in and leads to that final confrontation. That’s my recollection but I’m the same as you and it’s been many years since I read it.

Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames. It’s about a “band” of mercenary monster hunters. It was great.

I agree, I don’t always have time to read a lot and sometimes the though of a multi book series turns me off that series altogether. Sometimes I just want a quick fast read. I enjoyed a few Abercrombie novels, “best served cold” and “the heroes”. I also liked some Guy Gavriel Kay “The Lions is Al-Rassan” and “The Last Light of the Sun”.

Try Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Brilliantly written historical fiction.

Ahhh…. i read the first, and it didn’t feel like a sequel was needed. Didn’t realize it was a trilogy….. but i still think it meets OPs request.

Crap…. now i have to get the other books. Lol

@Joshua The books take place hundreds of year apart and the only similarities are that they are in Kingsbridge for some of the story and they mention Tom Builder once or twice in the later books. Pillars of the Earth can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

I second Graham Joyce. Only read about 3 or so of his books, but each one was excellent.
