Horror is my JAM! I’ll skip the Stephen King suggestions (although he’s the king for a reason) and suggest some favorites that are lesser known:
Bleed by Ed Kurtz (man moves into a house and a blood again keeps appearing on the ceiling that returns and grows even when he cleans it off) The Devil Crept In by Ania Ahlborn (and any other book by her. In this one a recluse births a monster that she keeps hidden from the town until a little boy goes missing and everyone is thrown into the fray) The Store by Bentley Little (and also anything else by him. This pokes fun at Wal-Mart basically by showing the extremes that could happen when a mega store takes over. Picture death, creepy managers, and a town council controlled by walmart) The Association by Bently Little (so good I’m adding him twice. This one takes on homeowners associations and takes it to the max with racism mixed in with controlling men and women and a creepy book of rules that continuously changes to follow whatever the HOA deems appropriate) Pines by Blake Crouch (more well known because of the t.v. series but thus trilogy is an all time favorite. A man wakes up in a hospital after a car crash and he can’t leave the town or speak with anyone from outside of it. There is SO MUCH MORE but it would be a disservice to not let you find out the other parts on your own)
You clearly already know all the good stuff so I’ll throw out some newer ones :). How about Bird Box by Josh Malerman? Maybe “The Girl With All The Gifts” if you aren’t sick of zombies. Hex was just ok, but pretty good if you have read most everything else.
@Bron, I have Hex on my TBR list. Can you tell me why it was just ok? What put you off about it? I’ve heard conflicting things from “the best ever!” to “meh”. What are some others you’ve liked better?
Ghost Story by Peter Staub and all Robert McCammon’s early books. I also like Jonathan Maberry, I guess his books are considers horror by some people, his Pine Deep series is for sure horror. Great fun
I just finishing Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. Really enjoyed it.
An oldie but a goodie is Shadowland by Peter Straub.
Most recently, I’ve read The Long Walk by Stephen King (just wow) and Head Full of Ghosts by Peter Tremblay. I recommend both.
Seconded to both!
Also, I’ll take all the rest of your recs. if you have more! (I have read all of King ❤️)
