Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (anything in the Kingsbridge series)

The Fool’s Tale by Nicole Galland (light, fluffy historical fiction with some romance and some tears)

Nefertiti or the Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran (Ancient Egyptian historical fiction that is pretty awesome and not too dense)

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (haven’t read it but really, REALLY want to. Gay historical fiction)

😀

Kristin Hannah’s latest, The Great Alone, is set in the recent past (70’s) and excellent. Otherwise I’d go with Centennial or Chesapeake by Michener.

I enjoyed Ken Follet’s The Pillars of the Earth recently – 12c Britain.
And lots of other British history covering 14c, 15c, 16c, and 19c.
