Do you know Kate Ellis? One of my favourite writers. So is Ellis Peters (medieval mysteries). Stephen Boot has a series about detectives in Derbyshire.
Caroline Graham has written some really good mysteries that take such odd twists and turns with the characters. Her books became the basis for “Midsomer Murders” on PBS
Set in Scotland…great characters and brilliant plots. This is gritty and gripping – edge of your seat – but the author has a sensitive approach which makes it an easy read. His dry humour really lifts it. This is not even my preferred genre but I’m addicted!!!Need I say more!!! http://author.to/OwenMullen
Ooh, I just recently got Games People Play as a kindle daily deal. I got it bc it was set in Scotland. Now I’m really looking forward to it… but have a few others to finish up first. I usually have a couple books going at once, but can’t get TOO many!
GM Malliet’s Max Tudor series, Anne Cleeves’ Shetland or Vera series, Caroline Graham’s Barnaby series. Louise Penny’s Three Pines series actually takes place in Canada but has the same sort of feel.
@Shanna Yes & it wasn’t clear to me. I thought she said she’d expected to quit after her husband died, but didn’t. But she dispensed with Jean-Guy, then sent him & Annie to Paris, so now both Gamache kids live there plus grandkids. That might be a new setup…?
@Linda, agreed. I was sad when she moved Jean-Guy to Paris. He wasn’t always a likeable character, but he was always there. Maybe a new second in command? Also, do you think Isabelle is going to make a full recovery?
The Butterfly conspiracy, The Silent in the Grave series by Deanna Raybourn also the Veronica Speedwell series. The Lady Sherlock series by Sherry Thomas, and the Miss Silver series by Patricia Wentworth.
I am reading a book by Peter Robinson right now, it is about a British police officer, Alan Banks. It is the most recent one in the series. The title is Careless Love. Anne Cleeves also writes good British mysteries.
Rhys Bowen Her royal Spyness series. Light 1930’s, with references to actual royal family history. She also has another series set in Wales that I haven’t read yet.
Am half-way thru one called A Killer Ball at Honeychurch Hall by Hannah Dennison. Have never read her before, just grabbed it at the library. She also has the Vickt Hill series the front page says. Will read her again.
Catherine Aird, Pat Burden, Patricia Wentworth. Also J.K. Rowling writing phenomenal detective fiction as Robert Galbraith. And of course Dorothy L. Sayers
The English Wife by Lauren Willig and The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware.

@Linda, I’m actually reading Kingdom of the Blind now because I finally got it from my library. I was number 20 something in the hold queue.
@Shanna I just finished it, had to wait a long time too. Now what to do until August?? ?
@Linda, did you read the acknowledgements at the end of Kingdom of the Blind? Did you get the impression there might not be another one?
@Shanna Yes & it wasn’t clear to me. I thought she said she’d expected to quit after her husband died, but didn’t. But she dispensed with Jean-Guy, then sent him & Annie to Paris, so now both Gamache kids live there plus grandkids. That might be a new setup…?
