@Elaine that one was very interesting and the series on Netflix is nice and creepy although it bears no resemblance to the book.

2
Elaine

@Ellena the series doesn’t, other than the premise that Hill House is evil. I’m a HUGE fan of the book and the original movie, and I thought the series was a fantastic homage.

Ania Ahlborn’s stuff is really creepy and gross. Literally anything by Jack Ketchum (he’s not for the faint of heart). The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty, of course. Grady Hendrix’s My Best Friend’s Exorcism is like Mean Girls meets Jennifer’s Body but in the 80s. House of Small Shadows by Adam Neville is a very good psychological horror.

Maria Pessl wrote a creepy one several years back called Night Film. Everybody to whom I’ve recommended it has told me they thought it was fab.

The single scariest scene in a book is found in Neal Shusterman’s Unwind, but the book isn’t scary. You’ll know the scene when you get to it.
