I second pretty much all of Wodehouse and THREE MEN IN A BOAT by Jerome K. Jerome. I would also recommend the wonderful autobiographical account MY FAMILY AND OTHER ANIMALS by Gerald Durrell.
I don’t know if William Boyd’s A GOOD MAN IN AFRICA is considered a modern classic, but it’s a fun novel that mixes up black comedy, satire and outright farce.
