I can’t read for long periods of time on a screen like a phone or iPad. The kindle paper white has a totally different screen that is super easy on the eyes.

I have the kindle app on my phone, 2 iPads, my computer and I have a paperwhite kindle. I can switch between any of them and it goes to the last page you read. Also have audible on all to.

What’s your preference? Do you like reading off a computer screen, or off of a paper-like surface? That should answer your question.

I love that the paper white has the textured screen and the lighting that shines downward onto the screen instead of outward like on a cellphone or an iPad. It reduces eye strain greatly. I also love the battery. I’m currently on a 3 week visit back home at my parents and I read a good part of the 20 hour drive out here and I’ve read many night since then, and plan to read the drive back home and I probably won’t have to charge until I get back to our house, if that. It’s very convenient!

Depends on where you want to read.
I read outdoors and iPhone/iPad cannot deal with our temperatures and in the sun you have the glare that makes is hard to read. So outdoors it’s paper or my Kindle (NOT a kindle fire, which is a tablet and not en e-ink ereader )
Indoors I like the iPad .. it has color, a sharper image and is faster than the kindle so indoors it’s paper or iPhone/iPad.

I used to read on my ipad with the kindle app. My husband got me a paperwhite and it’s so much better, for all the reasons listed by others. I read on my phone if I’m out & about-at a dr office, grocery store, etc but the paperwhite is my favorite.

I love my Kindle 10. Doesn’t have the long battery life the paper white has, but I can watch my movies and search the web and Facebook among other sites with it.

I went from the Kindle Fire to the Kindle Paperwhite. I needed something less straining on my eyes and the lighting on the Paperwhite is like you are reading an actual book. It has helped a lot.

@Charley.. that the same for every e-ink reader .. paperwhite, Oasis, Kobo..

@Dorine I prodominently read paperbacks, but if I do ever buy a book online it has to be the paperwhite, you have the option for natural or artificial light, connect to your goodreads, buy books through it when connected to an Internet connection, what more could you want??‍♀️

1
Dorine

@Charley.. what you are describing is true for every e-ink ereader..

@Laurie I was always put off by large books.. like pillars of the earth and luminosity .. however reading on the kindle makes it easier.. I’ve been missing out on some great reads! My to be read pole is so big I still read paper books .. but I won’t be buying any more :))

Paper white cause it’s got a backlight so you can read at night without lights on and also read in the sun.

Kindle app on my iPad mini or iPhone!

I liked my paperwhite when I had it, but I accidentally left it in the seat back of an airplane. Lessons learned that day….. That was a couple of years ago. I never replaced it because frankly I like just accessing on my iPhone the best. I’ll use my iPad mini as a backup.. but my phone fits in my hand like a glove…

At night I just turn my iPhone into night mode so that the light doesn’t bother me.

Kindle paper white for me. My iPad is uncomfortable to hold and my phone too small over time. The kindle feels the closest thing to a book to me.
