I’m hearing a lot of “no’s”, which heartens me! But a few more details would be nice LOL. I mean, I don’t hate Christmas, per se, but I sure could do without it.
I’m with you there I don’t hate Christmas but I could do without it… I worked retail for 16 years and Christmas started in August for me to I’m tired of it haha… I like Christmas Day though feels nice to be with all the fam-a-lam ???
Definitely… As soon as Christmas Day is over it’s like ‘whew that was enough for one year’ ???… Although the way the time is going soon it will be Christmas all the bloody time lol
I love Christmas. My chronically ill daughter is actually singing at a nursing home today. Handing out little gifts, baked cookies, etc. I love the extra time with family. I love all of it.
Haha… The only one I’ve read that was set at Christmas was an Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes short story ??… It focused more on crime than Christmas lol but again I don’t like Christmas themed books, they are too soppy and light hearted for me ?
I find Christmassy books too full of smalch (how on earth do you spell that?) for my tastes! That’s nowadays of course. Read some when I was young….but now I am in my 60s and enjoy detective/thriller genres.
I don’t think I own one Christmas themed book, unless you count NOS4A2 by Joe Hill ?? I read fantasy & mystery/thriller which usually have some sort of winter theme. That’s enough for me xD
The only Christmas book I’ve ever read is The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore. Most Xmas books come across as. Cheesy hallmark movies (which I admit to watching once in a blue moon). this year I picked up Skipping Christmas by John grisham. I don’t usually read him, but I love the Christmas with the Kranks movie, so thought I’d see how the book is.
I don’t like them, nor Christmas movies and music. I could do without the while thing actually. Christmas has turned into a commercial nightmare, in my ever so humble opinion. But I enjoy watching people who love Christmas enjoy their time.
I love Christmas as does my family. My girls and I make gingerbread houses, collect for the needy, enjoy each other’s company (many board games come out), and love anything Christmas. My 16 year old daughter and I especially love the Hallmark channel Christmas shows. We watch at least one Christmas themed movie until New Year’s Eve. I love it!
I never noticed so many Christmas themed books in the shops before. Such cynical commercialisation goes against everything christmas represents. Perhaps they are churning them out on Orwellian novel writing machines? I wonder if it’s the same place that floods the airwaves with low on quality high on cliché Christmas movies over the past couple of years? Lol. What really amazes me is the willingness people have to accept these things as if they are some long standing tradition – when it is literally a phenomenon that began just a couple of years ago. I’m happy enough with the christmas classics (in both books and film) and don’t feel the need to fall for this to off marketing ploy.
The only Christmas themed book I’ve read is A Christmas Carol… and that was years ago. I don’t like all the Christmas themed movies and so on minus It’s a Wonderful Life. I don’t really care for Christmas much in general.
I love Christmas music and movies, and some Christmas-themed childrens books…The Grinch, The Nutcracker, The Polar Express…but for some reason, I seem to hate Christmas-themed adult books, and I don’t know why.
No, I’m pretty picky… will read one if it’s given to me AND I think I might like it. Or it’s a riff on non-Christmas books where I loved the characters.
I like novellas like ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘The Story of the Other Wise Man’, and some Christmas short stories by O’Henry , Stephen Leacock and Jean Shepherd ‘s ‘A Christmas Story.Others Like the glossy romances that are run of the mill this time of year,I’m not fond of.
I don’t think I’ve read any newer fiction that centers around a holiday, I *did* buy an ebook set (it was on sale) that I want to read, it’s a sci-fi about Santa Claus and some other winter holiday figures. The first one is called “Claus: Legend of the Fat Man,” there’s also “Jack: The Tale of Frost,” and “Flury: Journey of a Snowman” –someday I’ll actually read them and report back. ; )
I absolutely love them for my kids! But I think the only one I have as an adult is Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol that I got myself as a stocking stuffer last year. My husband has two Christmas themed Uncle John Bathroom Reader books if that counts. Lol. I don’t think I’d want another adult Christmas book unless maybe it was a Chicken Soup for the Soul versions. I’m a sucker for those.
I was raised with both, which I think is why it’s interesting to me! lol I feel like there’s a hidden history, since Jews more often explain origins and explain the symbolism, and more of the Christian and contemporary holiday stuff is an amalgamation, and not as clearly explained.
I can only tolerate christmas for about 2 weeks out of the year… It’s not my fault… Blame the people who start shoving christmas down your throat two weeks before Halloween.
I crack wise about it… but honestly it’s one of the most disgusting things I feel subjected to every season… Especially when they start in on those “Buy your family’s love this year!!! Shop smart, shop S-Mart” attacks on people. As if the ONLY way you can be loved is through your bank account. It’s just filthy morals as far as I’m concerned.
I am a very serious reader, usually of literary fiction, that I also edit. However, this month, for the first time ever I have read two sweet little Christmas-themed books in about one night each, laughed and cried alternately and felt better. I have been weighed down by the weight of the world so to speak, and feeling it physically as well. This was a silly, easy outlet and it has somehow cheered me up and replaced my sense of humor. You’re not a Grinch and I’m not a Pollyanna. You might try one next time you want a complete departure and forget about the TBRs. At 74, I will take rooms of them to my death bed. LOL!
Have you read John Grisham’s Skipping Christmas? Or The Best Christmas Pageant Ever? I tend to like my Christmas stories in short, humorous doses. Maybe you would too? Or you are free to skip the entire genre, if that is your preference.
I just finished reading one today because it was for my book club. The whole time I just kept saying, “I’m reading a Hallmark movie. This is SO cheesy!” I did enjoy it, but I had to put aside some of my “issues” with little things like consistency in the plot, overused tropes, and unrealistic dialogue. 😉
I recently read “The Dog who came over for Christmas’ and it was a good book. It had a nice meaning to it. I usually like to read one that has to do with a rescue animal or one who is a service dog like this book had. Now I am going back to my regular read. I do this during the Halloween season too. This year I read “IT” .
One last thing to me. With all the stuff in the news, it’s nice to read a pleasant book especially if it’s Christmas themed. It puts a smile on my face.
I don’t think I’ve read many Christmas themed books. I like a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, but I’m not sure I’ve read much else (excluding a few children’s books) hmmm … maybe I should branch out… ?
Nope. Hate them 🙂 Except that kids book Dean Koontz did years ago. That was wicked 🙂
Nope, I never read them. I just can’t get into them.
Never had either
Nope
But I love movies
No
No.
I’m hearing a lot of “no’s”, which heartens me! But a few more details would be nice LOL. I mean, I don’t hate Christmas, per se, but I sure could do without it.

It’s pretty much a relief when the Christmas season is finished, right??
Definitely… As soon as Christmas Day is over it’s like ‘whew that was enough for one year’ ???… Although the way the time is going soon it will be Christmas all the bloody time lol
LOL, I get that! Time passes all too quickly as one gets older! That Stephen King story of My Pretty Pony says it all ?
It does haha ??? … ???
I love Christmas. My chronically ill daughter is actually singing at a nursing home today. Handing out little gifts, baked cookies, etc. I love the extra time with family. I love all of it.
That sounds really cool… Hope it all went okay and you had a brilliant time ????
Haha… The only one I’ve read that was set at Christmas was an Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes short story ??… It focused more on crime than Christmas lol but again I don’t like Christmas themed books, they are too soppy and light hearted for me ?
it doesn’t make you Grinch, each has own and you can just put such books aside till happy hours
I’m with you. Movies too.
If there were any good ones it might be different!
Seriously this ^ They are all cheesy to me. Romantic, perfect everything and exaggerated happiness.
I find Christmassy books too full of smalch (how on earth do you spell that?) for my tastes! That’s nowadays of course. Read some when I was young….but now I am in my 60s and enjoy detective/thriller genres.
schmalz, and I agree 🙂
I’ve never read a Christmas themed book before. I picked up one today to try though. So I don’t know if I like them or not.
Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is my favourite?
Hate them way too romancey Hallmark movieish with the exception of The Christmas Carol..that’s classic
No.not my favorite
I don’t think I own one Christmas themed book, unless you count NOS4A2 by Joe Hill ??
I read fantasy & mystery/thriller which usually have some sort of winter theme. That’s enough for me xD
I have never read a Christmas themed book.
Too many of them have too much “sweet” for me.
I usually don’t read them either

Also got one by Sedaris, cant remember the name right now though
They’re too cheesy for me. I’d be rolling my eyes at them non-stop
I don’t like them, nor Christmas movies and music. I could do without the while thing actually. Christmas has turned into a commercial nightmare, in my ever so humble opinion. But I enjoy watching people who love Christmas enjoy their time.
I don’t do Christmas themed books or movies either
I hate pretty much everything about Christmas because I hate Christmas. The hallmark channel and Christmas music is the worst
I love it!
We love Christmas in our house too 🙂
I’m with you @Tracey.

I love Christmas books for kids, but definitely not Christmas books for myself. The only one I like is NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. ?
I am not a huge fan of them either. I like Christmas movies but have never really been one to seek out Christmas books.
I don’t either! You’re alone ?
I only like How the grinch stole Christmas and a chritmas carol other wise no I don’t like them
I love this 2 movies as well+the latest edition of Nutcracker
I don’t either. I also don’t like Christmas music.
Nah. I’m not into them either.
I must confess I’m a sucker for a Christmas book and a Christmas movie and Christmas song ?
I read one book a year and enjoy it. It puts a smile on my face.
I don’t care for them – a bit on the fluffy side for my taste.
I love Christmas music and movies, and some Christmas-themed childrens books…The Grinch, The Nutcracker, The Polar Express…but for some reason, I seem to hate Christmas-themed adult books, and I don’t know why.
I’ve never really had feelings one way or the other toward them.
I don’t think I’ve read a Christmas themed book. Books with the holiday in it yes, but not centered around it. Just a passing holiday.
No, I’m pretty picky… will read one if it’s given to me AND I think I might like it. Or it’s a riff on non-Christmas books where I loved the characters.

How about a little mystery and suspense at Christmas time?
Those look inviting.

I’ve heard good things about The Christmas Box. Has anyone read it?
I understand too, I’m Jewish so Christmas books never really interested me.
I was raised with both, which I think is why it’s interesting to me! lol I feel like there’s a hidden history, since Jews more often explain origins and explain the symbolism, and more of the Christian and contemporary holiday stuff is an amalgamation, and not as clearly explained.
Exactly!
I can only tolerate christmas for about 2 weeks out of the year… It’s not my fault… Blame the people who start shoving christmas down your throat two weeks before Halloween.
More like 2nd week in August. Lol
I like Thanksgiving better… Everyone seems more worried about the turkey turning out delicious than how much you spent on the damn bird!!
I love Christmas movies but really haven’t ever open eve thought of reading one May be I should try one.
I have never read a Christmas themed book actually. I have too many on my TBR to add seasonal books too! lol
I only like the Christmas movies.
I am a very serious reader, usually of literary fiction, that I also edit. You are not alone.
I’m a Grinch too! But I’m also Jewish.
Depends. I️ don’t like romance or mystery books, and most of them are Christmas themed.
No — most are dumb , or very similar..esp. romances.
I hate anything that has to do with the holidays. I’m mrs. Scrooge. God forgive me.
There is a Stephanie Plum novel with elves – not that good.
They are boring and too easy to read.
I don’t like them either
Reading this and finding it kinda slow and boring. Almost done though.
Have you read John Grisham’s Skipping Christmas? Or The Best Christmas Pageant Ever? I tend to like my Christmas stories in short, humorous doses. Maybe you would too? Or you are free to skip the entire genre, if that is your preference.
Yes ,last year I read ” Skipping Christmas “.
Yep..and the best Xmas parent! ?
I don’t like Christmas in general.
I’m reading Last Christmas in Paris and I like it. Usually the holiday books don’t seem as well written.
Some day I’m going to write a satirical Christmas book that is just over-the-top cheese…. Someday…
I don’t like em much either.
I like some, but most of them wax cheesy or trite.
I recently read “The Dog who came over for Christmas’ and it was a good book. It had a nice meaning to it. I usually like to read one that has to do with a rescue animal or one who is a service dog like this book had. Now I am going back to my regular read. I do this during the Halloween season too. They are just good fun I think and like I said I just read a couple around the season to cheer me up.
Same! I LOVE Christmas movies but can’t stand Christmas books!
Yes!
Just needed to be contrary. Don’t mind me.
I read a Christmas Grace by Anne Perry and it is a murder mystery that was entertaining. I thought.
