Yes, be very aware of how close to current events it is – that it didn’t happen all that long ago.

I loved it! It has stuck with me and I continue to think of the main characters. A sensitive topic well done.

I read it. It is a story that should be told, but I wasn’t loving the writing. I really think the author did a disservice to their story.

@Carrie I agree. Very bland writing and the love story was like in a teenage summer camp!

Shela

I’ve read so many wonderful, well written Holocaust books that were far better than this one. Still, I learned something new from this one, even though reading this book was more of a struggle for me.

Carrie

@Shela I didn’t know it was based on a true story when I started it. I think the beginning started out well enough, but I was really disappointed in the writing. I believe the author stated she was thinking of a screenplay and it reads like it. This is a book that probably would make a better movie.

Very disappointing. There are better books about the camps. A Woman of War for instance. The Tattoist of Auschwitz story was good but the writing of it was terrible. Factually there are also several errors.
