I’ve read it twice before. I loved it. For a memoir of a very ordinary person, it was a surprisingly good read because the childhood and early adulthood story of frank mccourt was full of relatable themes like love, conflict with parents, with the self, and it was written with wit. Can’t help but feel the full range of human emotions, from sadness to frustration, to happiness and everything else in between. Its non fiction, but certainly, it sure felt like reading a fiction novel.

I read the book when it was 1st published. FM wrote in a visiual manner. You could picture each event as it unfolded. Very well-written.

It’s so sad! There is a current cartoon on Netflix for kids written by him called Angela’s Christmas! It’s about his mammy/mommy as a child and she steals the baby Jesus from the crib in chapel as he looks cold and wants to bring him home to warm him up! Two lines I’m still giggling 3 days later “I’ll wrap you up like a holy sausage” and “mammy, Angela stole the baby Jesus!” – though think it’s the Irish accent which makes it ??

Just finished it for the second time. I first read it about 16 years ago. Unbelievable how poor they were. But the humor in it is very entertaining.

My most favorite book of all time. Tis and Teacher man are also great but not as great as Angela’s Ashes. I cry every time I read it. Breaks my heart….and then the movie….aaah, so many emotions. I can’t explain why it resonated with me so much but it did.
