I find it cheaper to just use the library or get an out of state library card for libraries that have larger catalogs (Brooklyn Public Library is massive and is only $50 a year for non-NY residents). Audible runs some really good deals though, so if you’re the kind of person that likes to re-listen and own them, then you could activate for the time of the sale, buy what you want, then cancel your membership.

Yep. That’s what I do! Some of the sales are great.

I love audible, but I don’t really buy much outside of the sales or the things that are audible exclusives. The library is great for audiobooks, but sometimes there are also extremely long waits for popular books. In that case, I’ll often buy from audible, too

I buy digital audiobooks on Amazon and listen to them through audible, but don’t use an audible subscription… not worth it, imo.

I didn’t even know you could do this

I did it by accident the first time… I triple checked I didn’t sign up for anything, still says I don’t have a subscription, I don’t. But any books you purchase during your subscription you keep forever even if you give up the subscription, so it makes sense. Makes me nervous every time though ?.

Yes it’s definitely a thing on some books if you buy the ebook you can get the audible copy discounted. Sometimes doing that is cheaper than just getting the audible copy. I always double check that option before buying an audible book lol.

Yah! And then you can switch between reading and listening. So I can read it on my kindle at night and then listen where i left off while I crochet later! Best thing ever

For sure! That’s the main reason I prefer getting audible books over getting them from the library. If I get an audio book off of overdrive it won’t sync up with a kindle book lol.

@Crystal you just solved all my life problems ? I hate having to choose between reading and crocheting when I want to relax at night.

They’re called whispersync companions

You can also definitely work the system. There are some books with a cheap Kindle version and a cheap audio addition, so you pay less for both than you would for just the audiobook

I had it for a very short time but it just seemed too expensive for me. I don’t like to spend a whole lot of money on books ??‍♀️

I use it to listen to books I’m reading when I’m at working or doing chores or just don’t have time to sit and read.

Overdrive. It’s free through your library.

The biggest appeal of audible is the huge selection and that there is no wait for the book you want. Plus, you own it if it’s a book that you will relisten to over and over.
