This is my favorite book. This was the book that made me love reading. I read an abridged childrenโs version when I was little and fell in love with the March family. Then I loved the full version even more when I was older. I still re-read it every year around Christmas.
I remember that I bought a beautifully illustrated children’s version of Little Women and another one of Mary Poppins at a school book fair. I guess they were lost or donated when my parents moved out of my childhood home. I’d love to see those books again, even though I finally read and reread the unabridged versions many times through my childhood. Great memories. PBS is creating a series based on Little Women for 2018.
I couldn’t be fond of her until she came to senses; sensible enough to lecture Laurie on his delinquency. But how could she burn her sister’s writing? ?
It is one of my favorite since childhood. My opinion about characters change as I grow up, but still I love the story and its characters. Only that I am still not sure whether Laurie and Amy is a good match.
Yes, I remember reading ‘happy’ version of Little Women as a child. But since I read children’s book with pictures, I assumed it was abridged and Beth’s death was omitted. Interesting to know that it had two versions.
I definitely feel that way early in the novel, and I feel there’s a shade of heartache for Jo’s when Laurie returns a married man; however, I love reading about Laurie’s romance and his maturity. I also find Jo’s later romance to be sincere and touching, and I think it works for her; though, as a reader, I couldn’t help but have a fondness for Jo and Laurie.
Yeah, I felt a bit sad when Laurie was rejected because I thought they were meant to be ๐ But, Jo’s match with the professor was persuasive enough and in the end I felt like ‘Oh, Jo deserves better’.
“…I don’t see why I can’t love you as you want me to. I’ve tried, but I can’t change the feeling and it would be a lie to say I do when I don’t.” “Really truly Jo?” He stopped short, and caught both her hands as he put his question with a look that she did not soon forget. “Really truly, dear.”
It’s one of my favorite books of all time. All of the characters are so authentic, and I find something new to appreciate each time I read it. For some reason, the book puts me at ease; though, it’s an emotional journey. I still get upset when Amy does that thing to Jo’s book (not going to say what it is in case others haven’t read it), and of course…Beth. Having lost my son almost three years ago, reading Beth’s story hurts on an entirely new level. There are some lovely and loving moments, too. It’s the kind of book that makes you almost wish life was much simpler.
I’ve read this book so many times I feel like I’m a March girl.
I love it.
A classic, good to read any time. Now you can start on all the old movie remakes. That’s fun too.
It is a great read. May I suggest the book March that is about the father?? I loved it
There’s more March books? I’ll check it out. Thanks.
March is not written by Louisa May Alcott.
@Wendy no but it is good I think
Now you can read Little Men and Jo’s Boys.
I loved “Jo’s Boys” … that was such a fun read when I was a child.
I loved every book she wrote.
Yes, I loved that too. Thanks for the reminder, time for a reread!
I haven’t read it for many years but I remember loving it.

@Susan I know. I canโt wait to watch it next year!! I love the 1994 version too.
@Lisa my favorite is the 1930s version with Katherine Hepburn, but I’ve seen all of them. I saw the 1994 version with my daughter when she was little.
I read it for school and I remember shipping Jo and Laurie. I hated Amy.
I couldn’t be fond of her until she came to senses; sensible enough to lecture Laurie on his delinquency. But how could she burn her sister’s writing? ?
It always got to me how Jo called Laurie “her boy.”
My daughter is named after Meg March โค๏ธ
I love it. It’s such a great story. But it breaks my heart so many times. (Multiply that times the number of times I’ve read it … )

It was my first novel as a kid. I have probably read it once very two or three years since. I love it.
Same here. I know Iโve read it at least 20 times. Iโve also listened to audio and watched movie

I read an article that said there were two versions of the book. I didnโt even know more than one version of the story existed!

Same for me ! Loved it ! Time for a re-read ! ?
I was so young when I read this and loved it. Wonder if I read it for the first time now how it would seem.
I read it as a child, then a teenager and again as an adult. I loved it each time.
Recently read the book, good read but I really wanted Jo and Laurie to get together. It was HER BOY and she was HIS GIRL
