IMO, the themes in this book work best if you apply them to humanity in general. Currently, in the US, both of the major political parties are quoting and memeing this book all over the place. One of them gets it right; the other mucks it up.

I thought it was eerily pertinent to life today.

Agree. It is eerily pertinent at some point in every generation, partly because it speaks so accurately to the motives and actions of humanity. That, IMO, is the hallmark of excellent writing.

I read 1984 years back, I was still young and innocent so to speak, and it thought me loads. Just a mention: “Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.”

It’s one of my favourites and bearing in mind it was written 70 odd years ago I think it is incredibly insightful ? I would recommend Animal Farm as well because that book is often overlooked compared to 1984 ?
