The wee free men
Guards! Guards!
Colour of Magic (It’s the first of the Discworld books).
Yep , colour of magic .
Mort, Guards! Guards!, or Wyrd Sisters. There are some good Discworld reading guides available online that can also help you decide.
Oh wow just looked on Amazon didn’t realise just how many Pratchett books there were! X
You don’t have to read them in order… if I’d started with the colour of magic I probably wouldn’t have continued. My best advice is look at some blurbs see what takes your fancy
@Mary thanks Mary, i was just reading through some of them and they do appeal i guess i’ll just have to slowly work my way through them?x
Hogfather! My all time favourite 🙂
I loved the tv series of that too
@Elizabeth yes! Any of the death ones
Just downloaded book 1 of Discworld series just trying to imagine a world built on the back of a turtle? ?
A disk, on the back of four elephants, standing on the back of A’tuan, the great space turtle. Can’t forget the elephants! ?
@Erika omg i think my brain needs to get in gear x
Nikki Winson brilliant X
Guards Guards, or Feet of Clay, or The Truth
Mort. I love that book. Colour of Magic is the first, but not really representative of the rest, they improved massively after that. It’s still bloody good though. But Mort is my favourite x
I love the Hogfather good Christmas book but I always read them in order once you get past colour of magic the rest are great I’m just re-reading the discworld set again I’m on Pyramids xx
@Gill just downloaded number 1 so ive got a long way to go yet lol X
@Jane I’m a major fan of all Terry’s work so I’m biased anyway I’ve lost count how many times I’ve read them xx
@Gill if i read one after every other book i may just get through them by next christmas lol X
@Jane lol true I’m currently on Pyramids which is the 7th xx
@Gill see you on the other side haha X
Colour of magic. Definitely. X
My daughter has read Wee Free Men and moving on to the main ones she’s chosen Mort so a popular starting point it seems.
Colour of Magic or Going Postal
Guards guards is my fav x
Mort.
At the moment definitely the Hogfather. Xx but my actual favourite is most, followed by reaper man and soul music x
Hogfather or Mort are good places to start, unless you want to read them in order.
@Debbie yeah those 2 seem to be most peoples favourites but just got book 1 but i will get those next thanks X
@Jane I read them in order so think that’s a good way to dip your toe in. If you decide you don’t really like it, I would definitely try those two before ruling out the Discworld books.
This time of year, Hogfather.
41 Discworld books. All hilarious. They don’t need to be read in order but I’ve read the whole series several times and I got more out of the main characters when read in order. Loosely they are The Witches; The Wizards plus Rincewind; The NightWatch; The Death (Personified, of course) stories as well as the Tiffany Aiching (Wee Free Hag) stories & few standalone books.
Have fun. Each character will have an effect. Watch out for the Librarian and don’t ask why he’s a monkey…oh shhhiii…!
@Fran totally agree I’ve read them several times too xx
The first one I read was Wyrd Sisters, it was a gift. I was totally hooked from there on.
It took me a couple to get into them and then I read every single one! I think they grow on you as you become more familiar with the world and minor characters. CMOT Dibbler for example?!!! Xxxx
I’ve seen a few coming on Kindle at 99p lately x
@Florence i’ll keep my eyes open X
