@Sudha as above some love it some hate it. Therefore “a marmite” read. I read it in 6 hours I think in Amsterdam. Really enjoyed it and bought up her others xxx. Always good to ask/learn new things. Sure some words mean conpletely different things to other folk or even change in their context ? xxx
I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads because The title got me reading it. But after reading it I’m still not sure why it’s called ‘The Couple Next Door’. I know they had a part but I was expecting them to have more ‘main character’ roles. Maybe the title was ironic and referred to the their neighbours, the actual MCs.
Hated it. It was written like one of those TV voice overs for blind people. – “She gets up and walks across the room, she looks out the window. She turns to him and gazes in to his eyes” – ugh.
@Jaclyn, so accurate. Such juvenile writing. I feel like the author wrote the bare minimum just to get to the point of the story. Which ultimately was really bad anyway.
@Nicola good on you. Opinions are like bottoms we all have one and one mans trash is anothers gold so I always urge folk to try a book and see what camp they fall in xxx
Worst book I have read in years. I have zero understanding as to why it’s so popular. The writing is absolutely atrocious and the story is filled with gaps, implausibility, no character development, and juvenile descriptions of people, places, and things. I honestly thought it was that bad. But if you’re looking for something fast and easy to read, it’s available and fits that criteria well. I just finished it a few days ago and gave it 1 star on GoodReads. I also had bought it for a friend of mine before I read it as she was interested in it. I sent her an apology yesterday begging for forgiveness.
Nicola Grayson, you should always try for yourself. I like asking for opinions because it gives me perspective and can possibly make me think of something I hadn’t thought of before. But I usually know if I’m interested or not and can’t be swayed one way or another. Usually it just helps me decide which books to read first and which to postpone. I just have such a strong opinion about this one… I had a very bad reaction to it, evidently. ?
I thought it was ok x
3.5* out of 5 for me x
