I’ve got this big volume of Jane Austen books and i’mthinking about starting it, but I’m not sure where to start. Any sugestions?

I personally love them all, so hard to choose. 🙂

Start in the order they were published, it could be interesting to think of how her contemporary audience might have responded OR start in the order they were written to imagine her growth as an author. When you get to the line about white soup, Google the recipe!

My favs are Emma, Persuasion & Pride & prejudice all equal first place. Then Sense & sensibility which is her longest & most angst ridden book. Mansfield Park is a bit boring but still good. Northanger Abbey is my least fav maybe because its a farce of a certain type of Gothic horror novel that was popular at the time & I haven’t read those novels so I don’t get the jokes. Or maybe I just find the main character annoying??

I would read Emma after P&P and S&S and maybe even after Mansfield Park because you see how Austen reworks her own formula to tell the story from a different character’s perspective.

But the one I like is Persuasion.
