I love Russian writers and mostly I read only them. This book, don’t know why it’s a little bit hard to go through. Really complex, but interesting to find out from a History point of view. sorry my bad English, not native.
I enjoyed the story very much, but will admit there were times I almost gave it up, and the ending of Natasha’s storyline wasn’t pleasing. On the whole though it’s a great book to read if you want an epic story and characters to really get to know and love! If you can, try read it with another lighter book, that helps break the ‘heavy’ feeling
Well it depends on who you are, some people really liked the ending, it just didn’t work for me! Stick with it and feel free to chat to me when you’re done! ^_^
I was daunted when I had to read it but it turned out to be a wonderful reading experience. It’s a bit more like Dickens than other Tolstoy works – multi thread stories and a broad sweep of characters – but the exploration of human impulse and history is much richer.
I used to try to come up with one sentence descriptions for the books I read, and this is what I came up with for War and Peace, “After attending the aquatic ballet featuring cop and bear, Pierre proceeds to Forest Gump his way across Russia, getting everything he wants without ever knowing he wants it.” I don’t know why I stopped doing that. It was fun.
I’m definitely outvoted here, but I read the first two books and could do no more. It is very long and feels very long. But I respect what it as a classic. It just wasn’t for me.
1 was given this for Christmas but haven’t read it yet. It’s quite a daunting book so like you I’m interested to know what people think if it.

I’m half way through it and now that you tell that the ending it’s told by Natasha, which i really don’t like, gives me a hard feeling.

I loved it.
I really enjoyed it, but it is a commitment.

It’s been on my tbr for ages! Determined to actually read it this year
I didn’t like it, but we all like different things xx
Loved it !
I found it to be stuffy and boring
I loved it, but as others have said, it takes commitment!
It’s a great story but there are some slower sections that test your commitment.
I liked it a lot
I want to read it but it’s so intimidating.
It’s very good!! I read it as a teenager and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It’s complicated!
It’s one of those books that you’ll never forget.
Amazing but lengthy and somewhat complicated. One chapter at a time is the way to go.
I read it as a teenager and was glad I did. Deffinately a commitment!

@Mac YAS
I’ve yet to read it, but Anna K is sublime. Long, but not a hard read.
It is a daunting read. Keep track of your characters because there are like a thousand of them.
I really enjoyed it…but found the storyline of AK much easier to follow.
I had started it but couldn’t get into the story.
I am over half way through it and I think it’s fantastic. Definitely recommend reading it, I think it has something for everyone.
It is if you have patience.
It is an exceptional read
Yes. Be prepared to devote a lot of time to it, however.
Yes!!
Have a pad of paper to help you keep track of who is who and who did what to whom and why.

I read it once and I will not be trying to climb that literary mountain ever again… once is enough at least for me.
