He’s going to wait for the showrunners to write the ending just like game of thrones. Watch.

@Joshua my biggest fear is that the third one will ruin everything.

Troy

thats probably why he’s taking so long

He’s afraid of that too

I don’t understand how people can say Kingkiller or A Song if Ice and Fire is their favorite series.

They’re not done

1
Joshua

@Troy you and me both. They’re brilliantly written, but (particularly the second book) left me frustrated at how pointless the story is so far.

Kingkiller is very overrated

I honestly believe it’s never going to be released ☹️

@Jodi I’d like to know as well, just don’t think he’s interested in releasing it tbh ☹️ Personally I’m disappointed in him, he’s letting his fans down massively in my opinion.

It seems like He has been saying it’s going to come out next year every year since the last one came out.

Relax, it’s probably gonna end up being finished by Brandon Sanderson once Rothfuss gives up.

Rothfuss actually finished the first draft like 8 years ago. Since then, he has been saying “2 more years” and it doesn’t seem to be getting any closer.

Lots of people are pretty peeved about it, especially since he’s started talking about a second trilogy, and how this series is really just a prelude to the REAL trilogy he wants to write after it – which seems particularly tone-deaf and almost deliberately designed to piss people off.

But frankly, I loved the first two books an can enjoy them even if he never finishes the series.

My advice is to just read other stuff and don’t worry about it. It will be released when it’s released and there’s nothing we can do about it, so just live your life. 🙂

By the way, have you read The Slow Regard of Silent Things? It is actually nothing like the main books, but at least it’s from the same world.

@Sandro, I haven’t, but I’m going to. I find her character fascinating.

1
Sandro

She is! But it takes a different kind of taste – almost like poetry – to like the book. I didn’t XD

Good to know!!

I didn’t prefer this one

There was also a short story on a collection called “Rogues” that is the same world. It’s called “The Lightening Tree” and focuses on Bast. The writing style is similar to the main trilogy rather than Slow Regard.

He doesn’t need to write it, because he’s living off all the money we gave him for the first 2 books. Now he treats his customers like shit and wonders why there’s outrage at his lack of content. The waiting isnt bad….it’s his attitude thats offputting.

@Matt I actually did not know about this. But, I’ve seen multiple people, in this thread, say he’s a jerk. Very disappointing!!!

Michael

@Matt I agree 100% That’s why I wish I had never read his books

He’s another George rr.
It makes me sad and angry.
Give the people what they want!!

Let’s take it easy on Rothfuss, I think the product will be worth the wait. He refuses to put out anything that isn’t amazing and that’s why we are so hooked after book 1 &2

Also agreed plenty of books to read during the wait

@Harry, totally agree!! I don’t want to have invested all this time for the third to be crap. Just wondered if I had missed a release date. I see so many different ones, I never know if it’s real or not. LOL

Harry

Just make your way through all the cosmere books by brandon.

Didn’t he go through the death of a parent after the second book? That kind of thing profoundly changes ppl.. plus, grief can really fuck up the writing flow.

Oh, I didn’t know that! Profound is an understatement, that’s for sure.

Heather Rex i wounder how many people lose there parents?

0
Heather

@Michael i lost my mom 3 years ago and haven’t written the same since, so i get it.

0
Heather

Death effects people in different ways. I watched my mom die over the course of a year as i was her caregiver. I also watched har take her last breath… these kinds of things change people.

0
JodiQuestion author

@Heather, I lost mine almost 5 years ago and I’ve never been the same.

1
Heather

@Jodi i believe it. I know i won’t ever be the person i was either. I’m betting it’s the same for Rothfuss. I’m inclined towards compassion rather than irritation cuz i want a book, you know what i mean?

1
JodiQuestion author

Absolutely know what you mean!!!!

1
Mike

Yeah, his father died, I think.

The hype for this book has been building for so long that no matter how good it is people are gonna be disappointed

I don’t believe people are still trying to defend him. Bottom line, he said before book one came out…”it’s all done, so you won’t have to wait”. I’ll find the interview if you don’t believe it. So making excuses for him, or believing any of his is a complete waste of time.
I read them so long ago now that I couldn’t possibly pick up the third one and remember all of the finer points. And we should never HAVE to read books twice.
So I’m not buying it, or giving him another dollar for anything! Not a stupid Kickstarter, not for his quest to save to save the world….hell I wouldn’t even buy a video game he recommended.
All I can do is not support the authors who think this shit is ok. It’s not. It’s a matter of courtesy to your fans….you know, those people authors reeeeeally need to continue being authors. He gives his fans a big middle finger every time he takes to social media begging for more money for all his causes, has the nerve to say there’s MORE books coming ???, and that we can’t ask about the only thing people actually want. So he can take his time now for all I care. I’m not giving my money to support authors who don’t write. Simple as that. If we ALL banded together and did this, it wouldn’t happen anymore. But everyone bought Fire and Blood so ??‍♂️.
