Lots of them, really–that’s one of the reasons I like to read. But they change as I change. When I first read Middlemarch 30+ years ago, I identified with Fred Vincy. Now I identify with Casaubon (who is repeatedly depicted as old and I’m now close to twenty years older than he really must be in the book).
