Is there a specific spot where The Handmaid’s Tale gets better? Is there anyone that doesn’t think this book is worth reading or am I that minority?

Try watching the the tv show. Maybe that would inspire you to finish the book. I love them both.

Just finished it today. Hoped it might get better, it didn’t. Daft solution to the sterility problem, in my opinion.

I’m maybe misunderstanding you, it wasn’t exactly supposed to be a good solution. That was the point. It’s supposed to show the horrors of a society where thought isn’t free, and where women’s bodies aren’t their own.

Yes I know, just being flippant, didn’t enjoy the book at all

I read it back in the 80s and really didn’t like it. When I watched the series last year I appreciated it more. Not enough to re-read the book though!

I’m so shocked right now. I thought it was as brilliant as 1984 and it had me hooked from the beginning. I love the author, I loved that it was a dystopian novel.

So relieved, someone else thinks the same! I kept reading it hoping it’d get better, but…nah, a bit disappointed really!

Some books you really try hard to like or even get through. Good reviews and a lot of hype, then you feel you must read it. Didn’t like it.

It’s like marmite from what I’ve seen in other posts. I loved it and would probably put it in my top 10, but I think that’s the sociologist in me. I know a lot of people hate it.

I found it hard to get in to, but I had to read it for English in high school, so it wasn’t a book I chose. It does have some good plot points though and I agree that it is very relevant nowadays.

I hated it but I left another page for saying such a thing because of the mean things that was said to me about my thoughts of this book. So it’s not for everyone but I have heard many say they love her writings !

Watching the show – which is not that great – so I can see why you feel that way about the book. Don’t think I’ll read it
