So I just looked this up and it’s not released until September of this year per Amazon. Have you both been paid to review this? If not how did you acquire it?

This is exciting! Those crafty marketing vixens…not releasing it everywhere at once!

I found NIGHT by Elie Weisel interesting and also very heart wrenching. I loved that. But I haven’t read it since grade school.

There are much better reads about this awful time than this book. I felt it was very rote, just factual and no character development or atmosphere given to the plot. Basically it is a love story with most events glossed over. The Nightingale, All the Light We Cannot See and The Book Thief are way better.

Yeah, i would like to read more about what actually happened their now. Some bits of his story i didn’t believe or i felt were exaggerated maybe.

I recently read renas promise. It was amazing. So much better written

1
Robin

@Emma Rena’s Promise is my favorite!!! Along with Born Survivors and My Enemy’s Cradle.

0
Liz

Those books are fiction. The Tattooist is not.

0
Robin

@Liz Rena’s Promise is not fiction. Neither is Inside the Gas Chambers or The Librarian of Auschwitz. Born Survivors is a true story also.

0
Robin

If you read the ones I listed, the authors interviewed the actual people involved.

0
Liz

@Robin I was replying to Janie Fish. The books she listed are fiction.

Not great in the genre. There are def better books around the Holocaust either fact or fiction.I thought it was badly written and rushed. It was a screenplay first and it shows!

Worth reading, but not the best written holocaust book.
But, if it gets the message across, it’s done the job

Thank goodness I am not the only one, I feel so apologetic that I really and truly did not enjoy it. It felt like the author was taking something truly horrific and catastrophic and romanticising it. I put it down as well but picked it up again almost out of respect. Definitely not for me.

1
Tara

@Elspeth it really did seem that way, I guess in such a situation that’s when a person would need love the most but I feel like from other books I’ve read, the feeling of horror, and being starved and worked to death, could be beaten or killed at any moment I just feel like that type of atmosphere, romance wouldn’t be on anyones mind. Maybe I’m wrong but it seems like someone saw the movie Life is beautiful where they made a comedy and romance out of the holocaust and wanted to write something like that.
