It encompasses life itself, and is just an overwhelming reading experience. Make sure you read the unabridged version. It’s long, but the pages fly by, and you’re going to think that you’re watching the action unfold before your eyes.
Yes. Cuz it manages to drive home the point that despite political, economic & social conditions, the only thing that can keep the world from collapsing is humanity.
I am currently reading it. For me it’s a tough read (a lot of French that I do not speak). There’s also a lot of history and description. I love the parts where the story is developing but find my mind wandering in some of the historical parts.
The story is one of redemption and human frailty and it is very worth it, but Hugo could have used an editor. Remember back then they were paid by the word. It’s fine to read the abridged version. Mind you, there’s abridged and there’s very abridged. I’d go for the middle of the road.
I tried reading it, but it ripped my heart out to see what life was like back then and what poor people went through just to survive. Never did finish more than the first 40 pages.

I loved it but its a heavy reading for some. Unabridged is the way to go, so much depth of character and brilliant character arcs
I really enjoyed it, but found it heavy going in places. well worth the effort though. 🙂

Following as planning to read this as my 100th read this year
Yes.
Difficult but worth it.
Yes! so good
Yes! It’s a great read. Long, but a good story.

Overall it’s worth reading, but Hugo gets VERY pedantic. He devotes whole chapters to explain things that could be done with a paragraph or two.
OMG! Yes! It’s amazing.
Don’t hesitate

absolutely, I read it multiple times, and it always felt new
I read it in the 9th grade to prove a point to my dad. Ended up really loving it.
Absolutely
