Agree…my ten year old keeps asking when she can read it. I keep telling her in a couple years.

Yes I have a 10 year old but that one small part in the book means I won’t let her read it

My 12 year-old daughter read it and saw the movie. Read it along with her so you can discuss.

Really bad language if that bothers you. Lots of the F word.

This is not a memoir.

I enjoyed it a lot. I would recommend it for a mature 13 or 14 yr old but I think it should be required reading for all 17 and 18 yr olds.

I really liked this book. It does have bad language but most kids hear this language out in public. I would suggest that you read it before your 13 yr old and then you can discuss it. Very relevant issues.

It’s not a memoir, but I would say yes, if she’s a mature 12 yr old, and your comfortable with some language.

I think not. I’m a 7th grade teacher and think it’s too mature for their age. It’s not the violence though, it’s the sex

With guidance from a parent or teacher. I won’t put it on the shelves of my elementary school library, but it is being used in the grade 7&8 language classes at my school. Teachers or parents need to put it in context.

It really depends upon the 13 yo and what topics/language she and her family are comfortable with her reading. Is it a worthwhile book to read, if not now, then in the future? Absolutely!

It is an excellent book, but very difficult to read, even as an adult.

Absolutely. If the child is old enough to have an interest in this book, they are old enough for the content. Such a great book!

I haven’t read it but it is sold on the Scholastic website targeted toward that age, so I would think so.

It’s not a memoir, it’s young adult fiction and yes it would be suitable for a 13 year old.

It depends if you don’t mind her reading anything more mature. Other than that, go for it.
